in a town of around 2,000 people, this 18-year old just got elected: he received 218 votes to his opponent's 139. He campaigned on bringing transport and a grocery store to Earle, improving safety and tearing down old, abandoned buildings. It'll be interesting to see what he can achieve at this tender age and with limited resources.

That's 1.8% of the population. Either that's wrong or nobody in that town gives a rat fuck.
🤷‍♀️

don't know the makeup of the population... how many under voting age, how many not registered etc..., but it does look a small slice.

To be honest, I think Wedgie’s math is a bit off. And small town mayoral races in a mid- term year don’t typically generate much participation.

358 out of 2,000 seems fairly “normal”.

imho….

it actually is. I rounded up but also put decimal wrong place. It's 18 which is about right.

closer to 10+%, isn't it? 218x10=2180 or summat?

Well yeah, but you really need to look at the total votes, and also consider those ineligible to vote.

I would say the participation was “normal”.

Dam that systemic racism that's always keeping the minorities down and out.
