Meaningless ramblings...

Nah, they'd probably require you to get into the technical aspects of masturbating, which wouldn't be nearly as fun!

Ever read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance? Author Robert Pirsig describes how instruction manuals for products are written--the tech writer interviews the least competent person on the product development team, and that's the basis for the manual...

Not surprising when you read them!

I suppose they wouldn't appreciate it if I offered a demonstration with my report on masturbation either...

Hehe...I had to write simple instructions on how to change a flat tire...I forgot a step...I guess I was the least competent person on the team...lol.

Meaningless? I don't think so, I like you so I give your thread a bump to the top of the page so that others can enjoy your thought, no my dear, tis not meaningless at all. :)

LOL, that's as close as I'll ever get to Shakespere!:D

Well, damn! ;) I was hoping my most recent post here was meaningless. ;)

Why is it customary to 'bump' a thread? What does bumping have to do with threads, anyhow? Is this some arcane allusion to volleyball? So you have to 'bump' the thread so that someone else can set and spike? WTF?

When a thread is posted to, it is moved to the first page of the forum, section it belongs to. That makes it easier for people to see, and so it gets more visitors. Hope you have a good time with your game. :)

Umm, just to clarify--I understand the cause-and-effect aspect of 'bumping'--I just was wondering why it's called 'bumping.' Kinda like the fact that people still talk about 'dialing' a phone number when we all push buttons.

Hence the 'meaningless' part of my ramble...

Many people "bump" threads for many reasons...

1.) They're bored.
2.) They're trying to up their post totals. (IE: A "virgin" wanting to move to the next stage, or a "guru" wanting their own title.)
3.) They're bored. ;)
4.) They want more people to read (and hopefully respond) to their thread.
5.) They're bored. :D

Picture someone or something being bumped by another thing. Now, picture that happening to a thread when someone posts to it... ;)

Hell, I don't always say "bump". Several times, on the Gen boards "long, long threads" I have sais things like "pulling this thread back to the top", etc. :)

I am bumping this thread for reasons 1,2,3, and 5. And also reason 6, I dig Blessed! ;)
