Actually, I lie like a dog. My spelling is quite good. What I can't do is spot the dropped words from my own damned sentences. Why not? Because I wrote them, that's why! I already know what they're supposed to say, so I don't notice the dropped words.

Anyone here interested in taking a gander through my work and letting me know when I've dropped a "the" or an "and" throughout? I haven't been able to successfully make contact with any editors through the "find an editor" area.

Help me out here, please? I die a little inside each time I look at my posted stories and see all the mistakes hanging out for all to see.

Many thanks!

Hi welcome to Lit! Hope you're enjoying it here! One good way to edit your own work is to read it out loud. It works with me most of the time. But if I'm in a hurry sometimes I even forget to do that. My four cents.

Hello to you :)

It's always a good idea to link to your stories, so people can get a general idea about them, or at least to tell us which categories you usually write in. That makes it a lot easier for editors to figure out whether they might be interested.

Good luck :rose:

Dyslexics Untie!!

The problem, I think, is dyslexia.....A relatively common 'disorder' that I and two of my children suffer from. Many dyslexics have average to above average intelligence, are more often male, are late to read or write but often become avid readers or writers, and we can actually 'see' words move and float on the written page - when I write, I see words form in my mind much like words scrolling along the bottom of a news broadcast.

This is often confusing for me to say the least; so, I certainly understand your problem. You're right too, that in most cases, we need a fresh set of eyes to view our work - even our own a week/month later could be good enough. As you said, Bonnie, you die a little inside when you see your mistakes within your posted material.

Good luck in your editor search,
