i just got my computer back and noticed an email from someone claiming to represent them in the form lit feedback wondering if i would like to submit stuff to them for publishing. i'm just a wee bit suspicious about their actual intent, but i figured i ask you fine people if you've heard of them, if they're legit or a bunch of scum folks or whatever before i even consider responding to them.

also, is it a common practice to contact people through feedback in that manner? it just seems odd to me.

Hey, KAH, I don't have a clue, but welcome to AH. The name "McKenna" has positive associations for me, but that doesn't help you either . . :big grin:

Wow - thank you!

There are several different "groups" that contact people through feedback, though I couldn't tell you how legitimate any of them are. I would tend to be wary.

Do your research before you commit to anything.

this is just part of the research. i thinks it's bullshit. i'm just waiting for someone to tell me i'm wrong.

Have you checked out their website? Not sure they publish erotica from their blurb

Excerpt:
We specialize in nonfiction, but we do publish some well-written, high-quality fiction each year. This year we’ve published several works of fiction, and our latest was released in October, 2006. A Line Between Friends is Michele Cozzens’ first novel, and it is so well-written and so well-structured that it took first place in our fiction contest.

no. there was a link, but i haven't click on it yet. i don't like clicking links recieved in emails from complete strangers.

google it - that's how I found the site, at least they exist. And after a bit more trawling around, they do apparently publish erotica (but don't have any right now  )

Preditors & Editors says:
McKenna Publishing Group: Conflict of interest. Not recommended. a publisher.

AbsoluteWrite has some discussion of them:
http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19466

which includes this:
McKenna Publishing is under common ownership with Sligo Literary Agency, which charges upfront fees and has a miniscule track record of sales to small and specialty publishers. Many Sligo clients seem to wind up published by McKenna, which needless to say is a conflict of interest--if an agency can feed its clients into its own publisher and make money thereby, it doesn't have a lot of incentive to approach other publishers.

Odd...McKenna used to be listed in Writer's Market but they've been removed. They look like a small press (under 10 titles per year) and do small hard back runs and trade paperbacks.

I'd be careful with them. Something ain't right.
