I'm so smart I solved it in under a minute.

But I still made a spelling mistake!

Oh, damn! I haven't solved it!

My method only has 50/50 chance of finding the odd one out.

But I don't care I'm watching football!

Dead easy.

six and six, heave the heavy six

three and three from the light six, heave the heavy three

one and one from the light three

either it balances or it don't

either way you know the ight one

twenty seconds

It's sweet that both of you made the same wrong assumption, that's cute! ;)

That's what I said, and it's wrong!

Oh! My average just dropped to 33.3%!

I'm so funny!

I'd say you have a 1 in 12 chance of getting it right with this method. ;)

But he said the odd one can be lighter or heavier and you don't know which it is, so you don't know which six to look in.

Doing these brain teasers is like going and having your teeth scaled just for fun. I don't go on carnival rides that make me puke, and I don't do brain teasers unless I get paid. Life's too short.

So what do 3 groups of 4 help you?

1. weigh two of three groups:

result a: 2/3 * 1/2 you have no Oddies = 2/6

result b (by inference) = you have oddies = 4/6

a2. easy - weigh the 4 balls with the oddy...

...ahh forget it. :D
