but does anyone know what causes the dreaded red screen warning?? when i go to some threads, i get the "warning this site may harm your computer!!!!!"

(hurry, run away, don't click on this.....crap i really wanted to read that particular thread...)

anyone else getting those? anyone know what causes them? i was away from lit for a while, and never noticed it before.

things are generally good! i have been off having lots of fun away from the computer :D

My guess is either you have spyware that's giving you those warnings, or your firewall is trying to protect you (perhaps somebody's sig is triggering the reaction).

I use Google Chrome and used to get this message.

If you turn off signatures then you shouldn't get the message anymore. (User CP > Edit Options > Uncheck Show Signatures > Save Changes)

i bet it is the firewall, now that you mention it. and i would not be at all surprised if it was coming from a particular sig line...only happens now and then...not all the time. but it is reproduced any time i try to go back to the same thread i initially tried to read...

thanks! i will try that...i am using google chrome also.

What browser do you use? Sounds like the Firefox/Chrome warning message, which originates from Google.

If I were you, I'd be running a cookie cleaner (like CClean - which is free) and a adware cleaner (like SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebyes - I use both, both are free).

The red screen warnings are generated by your firewall. A good firewall checks all scripts and attachments before down loading. They also track known problem sites and if one is known for implanted viris it warns you. I used to work for Cisco Systems and you would be surprised at how many "attack" sites there are.

thank you! i thought i was going nutty...i knew i had been away for a while, but i didn't know i would come back to "the red screen of death"...lol!

I'm so glad to see that someone else is having this issue! I use Chrome too, but the problem only started recently, after we switched internet providers. The new provider has free virus and ad wear protection, so I thought that was what was causing it! My fiance also suggested that it might be something in someone's sig line triggering it. I've started ignoring it and proceeding to the thread anyway. I haven't had any problems on my computer since I started doing that.
