I have no desire to carry water for either one. My only interest in the case was about the principle- the right of consenting adults to do as they damn well please without the supervision of either the government or some self-appointed public scold.

It could be real justice if they were each hoisted on the other's petard.

Such a situation could develop herein the US. The radio giant Clear Channel owns thousands of radio stations around the US -in many cities where there are three or four stations in a town, they own all of them-housed in the same building.They have certain formats like a "smooth jazz" one. The programming for hundreds of such stations is done from one location and distributed with computers so local people believe they are listening to a local station.

Clear Channel is a spokesperson for the Bush administration on radio as much or more than Fox is on TV. When the group Dixie Chicks dared to criticize "Our Great Leader," the owner of CC (a friend and supporter of Bush) simply passed the word that their music was not to be played and they vanished from the majority of the radios in the US.

All of which is to the point that they own and distribute the Russ Limbaugh show--the ultimate Right Wing hate radio host. They recently signed a new contract with him for $500 million a year. Most people were outraged. I rather think that it could be the undoing of both.

A] Limbaugh already collects millions- can he really do that many more drugs?

B] The country finally seems to have gotten its fill of Bush and his neo-cons.

C] CC may have just bought a white elephant. It would served both of them right.

It happened when Sony bought Columbia Records. They gave Michael Jackson a contract that paid him more money than God. The ink was barely dry when Jackson became persona non grata to most everyone.

While we would all like to live in a perfect world where 'scenes' are kept completely private and no dictated by certain rules of society - we don't.

Even more reason to fight to protect privacy rights for everyone.

Especially as Max Mosley is a 'public' figure.

Unless you never leave the house you are a public figure. What people are allowed to do in private should not be dictated by their celebrity or their job. What they do in public is a different matter.

To be honest, I thought the Nazi theme was piss poor taste and bad judgement on his part.

I support your right to state your opinion. In the same light you can expect some to disagree with your taste and judgment.

Precisely. I absolutely abhor the whole trial by media situation that exists with the press. What consenting adults do behind closed doors is no one's business but their own.

Nazi themed.

Thats a bit different then S&M. If thats his thing then public humiliation seems just. Freedom to do what you like, etc, but theirs a difference between nazi play and uniform play. Whats next, KKK head games.

Toying around with those concepts is very wrong.

In my experience, many Nazi-oriented themes are integrated into interrogation scenes, and, that uniform play is very specific for those who are into it. Of course, i am talking mainly about those that we might consider hard-core. To some, terror is terror and they like to get their fix at the theaters. To some, terror is what they like to experience in BDSM. i don't think that toying around with these concepts in the privacy of your own bedroom or dungeon is wrong. Wanting to revisit these concepts to try and implement them in real life is very wrong and batshit fucking crazy (and not in the normal good way).

Sorta related, how do you feel about Civil War reenactors? Do you believe that the Confederates want to reinstate slavery and secede from the Union? Or, do you think they are just "playing" to get their jollies?

Has anyone been following the Max Mosley trial? Mosley, the British head of the Forumla 1 racing association, was video taped in a S&M party and the results published in the tabloid "The News of The World" and posted on several web sites including YouTube.

Mosley is suing the paper for "invasion of privacy," and seems to have a rather good case. The first detailed account on this side of the pond has just appeared in the New York Times

He maintains, rightly, in my view that private matters have the right to remain private. It will be interesting to see if he collects damages.

I read about this on the train last week while I was in England and got into a great discussion with the man sitting next to me about it. I think the story in the British paper said that he had paid 4 or 5 women about $5000 (USD) each to cane his "bottom until it bled".

I have to wonder how it's in the "public interest" to know all this. I mean really... aside from his wife, (who claims that after 48 years of marriage, this is all a revelation to her) who cares about his private sex life?

I'm am slightly torn though regarding the nazi overtones (if that is correct). I admit to not knowing much about him, his values and what he stands for, but part of me thinks you can't hold him accountable for his dads facist views. On the otherhand he has, I imagine been exposed to them over the years and its a strong character who isn't affected or influenced by their upbringing.

I guess that leads to another question...does that matter?

Is BDSM ok unless you hold facist views and if you do, does it put a different slant on it?

Just throwing it out there, because I've only just thought of it and am not sure of my own thoughts on it.

Why does it make a difference if it _was_ a Nazi scene? It was done in private with consenting adults. Do you want others to decide what type of scenes _you_ can do in private with other consenting adults?

I rather suspect that the "Nazi" thing was a red herring. The News of the World offered a bonus to the dom of 10k pounds if she got anything on the video with Nazi symbols, and esp a "Seig Heil" salute. .

I think the majority of us agree that what concenting adults do in private is their business. To me this is far more interesting question and one that I was trying to (rather badly) raise in my post ^^

Obviously the nazi twist matters to people because of the terrible atrocities that took place during that war. Thats why they find the concept repulsive or in bad taste.

Many of us here share desires and fantasies that others would find offensive. But is there a line to be drawn? I am playing devils advocate because I can't make my mind up.

On one hand I abhor what happened in the concentration camps in WW11 and my gut reaction is to condemn things that present those events as salacious. But then on the other hand I have fantasies that many would find sickening I am sure.
What about people who have rape or beastiality fantasies. To them the fantasies are hot, it doesn't mean that they necessarily want to run out and have sex with a dog or condone gang rape.

So this whole question interests me. Is there a wrong and a right, a line that shouldn't be crossed.

Hope I'm not hyjacking.....I think it relates completely.

Well minx, I have lines I won't cross which is why I'm submissive and could never be a slave.

So speaking from that perspective, I think the only uncrossable lines are those that you and your partner agree are to. Like you, there are certain things that I abhor and role playing as a Nazi is way up on my "too tasteless hit parade", but I can't pass judgement on what happens between consenting adults in their private lifes, anymore than I would want that to happen to me.

And by the same token, I don't want the private sexual activities of others thrust in my face. (Although I come to Lit expecting that, I don't read a newspaper expecting it to be there. LOL)

The definition of what's newsworthy and what isn't is a fine line and often a moral struggle for editors... at least for those with ethics.
