Maurice Sendak has died

He changed not only children's books but the whole idea of storytelling. "Where the Wild Things Are" is one of those literary watermarks. Impossible to ignore, and, so far as I know, not yet topped.

If you haven't seen the short documentary: "Tell Them Anything You Want" you should.

I suspect it can be found in several places for a quick download. It's short and pretty marvelous. Sendak is an amazing storyteller of his own life.

A wonderful storyteller, an excellent illustrator, his works will long endure. Requiescat in Pace.:rose:

The Rosenbach Library and Museum in Philadelphia has a nice collection of Sendak-related material ( http://www.rosenbach.org/learn/collections/maurice-sendak-collection ).

It's a fairly obscure place. For those who don't know, A. S. W. Rosenbach was one of the world's premier rare book dealers in the first third of the 20th century. Among other coups, he brokered a significant number of Shakespeare First Folios, a couple of Gutenberg Bibles and acquired James Joyce's handwritten manuscript of Ulysses ( which is in the museum's possession ).

Some people called him Maurice, 'cause he spoke of the pompitus of love.

You should check out his interview with Stephen Colbert!
Maurice was pretty sharp right to the end.

So a unique and beautiful style both in art and words, and from all I've always heard such a wonderful soul as well.

Thank you for such amazing talent.

Rest in Peace.

Priceless! Two really great people in a great conversation. SA Penn Lady, thanks for posting this.
