with all the material against him, gaetz has been walking in borrowed shoes...only getting to where he now feels he'll get mccarthy ousted with the tacit non-interference of fellow republicans. After the close shave the other day, where the right-wing nutters were intent on getting the government shut down, some of those who have kept their opinions to themselves are now muttering between eachother about getting gaetz 'sorted', making him face some accountability. He has to be even more unpopular than maccarthy, and that takes some doing! mccarthy can't be trusted to keep his word for 5 minutes and has pissed off both sides of the aisle, but gaetz represents the nutters keen to burn everything down.

so mccarthy says "Bring it", and gaetz is attempting to do that but who do they have to propose as speaker who will get the votes? will one of the crazies get the votes? doubtful, especially given the current situation in the courts with trump as the cases progress and his liability and criminality continue to be highlighted to the public.

to keep his position, mccarthy needs the democrats. what can he promise them in return that they'll believe he can deliver and not renege on like all his other 'deals'?

from that link above in post 2:

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told Talking Points Memo last week, “There’s been no caucus discussions on the motion to vacate issue because that’s political gamesmanship. That is part of the Republican civil war. Not our business.” Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi voiced a similar sentiment — let Republicans deal with the drama, according to Politico.

Democratic Rep. Jim McGovern of Massachusetts perhaps summed it up perfectly when asked about a potential deal. “If people want to talk to me about it, I’m all ears. But I’m not a cheap date,” McGovern told The Messenger news website.

“There are things we can do in codifying the rules of the House that would give Hakeem Jeffries, our leadership, real power over the floor, over committees, etc.,” Jayapal told Talking Points Memo.

But Jayapal added that any deal would have to be part of new House rules because that is “the only way we can trust” McCarthy.

others are floating a 50-50 power-sharing deal

This is senseless bloodletting on part of Gaetz. He doesn’t have the votes to oust but may have enough to force McCarthy to need the steady and lock step voting block that has been the Jeffries caucus - a win for democracy and for sending bills to the Senate. There is no honor among thieves and Gaetz and McCarthy are both liars.
IMO - like the vote on the speakership, this goes to the 23rd hour with Gaetz again backing down, but with concessions that Republicans will continue to block his child sex trafficking ethics probe.
But sure, it’s a slow news week with Trump having to be in a usual and all too familiar courtroom, so yeah - go nuclear House GOP.

Good work, Butters

Gaetz, a shill for trump is trying to step up in the DC political world.

Fixed it for you.

However, whatever deal the dems make with McCarty they best keep in mind two things: the parable of the frog and the scorpion and the old saying "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me". He's already proven he can't keep his word.

And that is how a leader leads. Jeffries listened to over 30 members as to how they felt...and then drafted a letter informing McCarthy the Democrats would not save his position. Play games....get fucked.

Hoping for some real drama...
Introducing your new Speaker...

i'm happy to see smug mccarthy lose the position he sold his soul to get after kissing the trump ring post jan 6th

having said that, it's not good for the American people for its house of representatives to be in such disarray where it's reduced to not being able to conduct business for the next few weeks over this shitshow

Agreed on both points.

This now has potential to not be solved in 43 days...and what happens then? Government closes down. Brilliant

Boy, was I 💯% wrong in my prediction.
Haha. I’ve got egg on my face!
I did get the senseless bloodletting part right.
For my conservative friends - It’s occasions like now, and not after a shooting, when the term “thoughts and prayers” should be appropriately used.

BREAKING: VOTE TO REMOVE MCCARTHY CONFIRMED - HOUSE CHAOS GUARANTEED!

BREAKING: VOTE TO REMOVE MCCARTHY CONFIRMED - HOUSE CHAOS GUARANTEED!
is it? only 7 votes apart, make that 6 and they're going through the people not voted yet

looks like you're right, though :)

Weird how conservatives see this as a victory? They had to have Democrats to do what they wanted.

Holy crap, that gavel just came down hard.

Relax, Bowtie Boy - your boy is toast; you already lost. Quit your butthurt. 😁

so who the hell will they have as speaker now? a temp guy might be this patrick mchenry?

and will mccarthy keep on fighting for re-nomination and a gavel grab?
