with all the material against him, gaetz has been walking in borrowed shoes...only getting to where he now feels he'll get mccarthy ousted with the tacit non-interference of fellow republicans. After the close shave the other day, where the right-wing nutters were intent on getting the government shut down, some of those who have kept their opinions to themselves are now muttering between eachother about getting gaetz 'sorted', making him face some accountability. He has to be even more unpopular than maccarthy, and that takes some doing! mccarthy can't be trusted to keep his word for 5 minutes and has pissed off both sides of the aisle, but gaetz represents the nutters keen to burn everything down.
so mccarthy says "Bring it", and gaetz is attempting to do that but who do they have to propose as speaker who will get the votes? will one of the crazies get the votes? doubtful, especially given the current situation in the courts with trump as the cases progress and his liability and criminality continue to be highlighted to the public.
to keep his position, mccarthy needs the democrats. what can he promise them in return that they'll believe he can deliver and not renege on like all his other 'deals'?
