Math tutor needed

as teachers...

we really tend to give, give, and give some more. there isnt anything wrong with calling in sick once a semester and recharging one's battery for a day. especially if it's a monday - a great way to start your week..

I appreciate the offer. But let me give you an idea of what you and any other potential tutors have to work with....an old gal who never got the basics back as far as elementary school (like I said, I need to begin with basic fractions), who has a terrible math phobia. I guess I should have been from Missouri instead of Texas (perish the thought!) because I have to be shown WHY. I guess I'm more of a concrete learner than abstract. And to me, math is abstract. Give me history any day.

You don't really need to know fractions any more because you can get a calculator that will figure them out. That's what my students use.

I was using fractions as an example of how poor my math skills are.

Besides...if I take this course, I'll have to know how to do the fractions to get through it, I'm sure. Fractions, decimals, algebra...etc ad nauseum...

some of the web sites are really good at what you are describing and there are more than a few people who are willing to help you..

I teach remedial math and have made it as easy as I can for my students. Math really isn't that hard. all you have to do is follow the steps.

Following the steps is easier if you understand the whys and wherefores...

Yes, there are folks who've offered to help and I'm most grateful; I'm PMing with some of them. I appreciate everyone who has replied here and via PM.
