Hey lit i was wondering if i could get some advice for my gf. She's been coming home a few times a week and saying her back hurts and i'd give her a back rub for awhile and she'll say it feels better, so i was wondering if i used some massage oil if it would help her anymore. Dont like to see her in pain :(

Go to Walmart and buy her the $20 big heating pad. I'm no fan of Walmart, but it's the best I've found for the lowest price over the years. Have her sit against it for 20 mins or so to loosen the muscles and increase circulation. Then use a medium weight oil, like grapeseed or sweet almond if you want to go the oil route (it can stain fabrics, so put down old towels or sheets and make sure she wears an old shirt or something after). Massage therapists prefer a product called Biotone because it doesn't stain and is generally better, so you may consider getting that at a massage supply or online instead. Massage oil will allow you to use smoother strokes and get deeper. I'd actually get her a professional massage and attend with her to learn the proper techniques to alleviate her pain. If she has insurance, massage therapy may be covered with a doc's referral, and you'd just want to check with the therapist to make sure it's OK for you to observe the session so you can learn and continue helping her between sessions. In my opinion, any good therapist will be all for that as long as your gf is fine with it.

Before buying the heating pad, find out the cause of her back pain. Heat is good for some pain, but not others. Also, if you can find out the cause, you may be able to eliminate or reduce the frequency of the pain. Does she lift heavy objects? Does she sit in a chair without proper support? Is it stress related? Also, where is the pain located? Some pain is relieved by stretching almost as effectively as by massage.

Biotone is indeed the preferred product of most professionals, but it is expensive (around $60.00/gallon, available on line and at massage supply stores). If the cost is not an issue, you might prefer Sombra warm therapy pain relieving gel. However, you can use ordinary skin cremes like Jergens or Vaseline (lotion, not the jelly), or products from Bath and Bodyworks and they will work just fine.

Also shoes are a major cause of back pain.

Make sure if she wearing dress shoes for work at the very least she has flat Nitrogen bubble insole Spenco are great.

If she happens to have narrow or wide ffeet you need to have her fitted for the propper shoes both work and athletic.

thanks guys and gals for the help :) i don't think she's going to get to the route of the problom because she is very stuborn and hates doctors. i do to so i'm not one to push somone to do something i wouldn't do myself. ill try the heatpad and thanks for the oil info :)
