I think I know what bubbley1 means... I'm new here so it doesn't apply to this site or to the fact that they don't show up. Mine did and it was awful. The last man I met face to face was NOTHING like he portrayed himself to be. While there were *sparks* via im's and emails, this toad was at least 20 years older than the photo he sent ( phot looked to be 40's, said he was 57, but 77 might have been closer). He also kept telling me he was ready willing and able to rent a room NOW, kept trying to touch me (at least above the table, I think I would have decked him if it had been anywhere else). Ick... Now, maybe it's because I'm female, but I can't believe there are men out there that really think that if I show up, I'm immediately going to hit the sack with them. Pardon me, but there has to be some (Some, hell, LOTS) of sparks in the real world, and not just on one side.... FWIW...

Hence the 'setting ourselves up for disappointment' comment...maybe we're ALL 77-plus years old and just fooling each other...

Reminds me of that running skit on Fox's MAD-TV...the video dating service called 'Lowered Expectations.'

Which brings up something I seem to be discussing in about three different threads right now--how do you arrange a Lit party so that it enables folks to actually get to know each other in a non-threatening, mutually enjoyable environment?

FWIW, I may be a 77-year-old woman and none of you know it yet.

Meeting up

If all of us Maryland folk would like to try to get together sometime, I suggest that we follow the approach that seems to be emerging on the 'Jack & Jill Party in VA' thread and meet for a happy hour at a centrally-located hotel to socialize first, and then folks can see what leads where.

Also, in case you didn't know it, there's a 'Lit-together' in DC this evening at Georgia Brown's.

Allow me to add my compliments on your wonderful amateur pics, and your generosity in sharing them with us.

I have a feeling that there are more MD people here on Lit than those who have found this thread...I've run across some on other threads.

Being from the Left Coast, it's also interesting how for me here in Montgomery County a place like Baltimore seems like a world away...even though it's less than an hour's drive. For me, someone from Baltimore is not 'local' in the way that someone from Los Angeles was not 'local' when I lived in San Francisco...

Thank you Princesss..... I had a good day also, was long but productive.

Smiles.... and a good nights sleep is always a plus,,, with all that is going on around here.....

I know how far things are from one another,,,, I live in Southern Maryland,,,, and commute up to DC each day to work. Of course my job I really enjoy so it makes it all worth it, plus the commute is fairly easy...

problem is

there is a VA thread, there needs to be a Dc/metro thread that combines NOva, DC, and MD into one thread. Then it would be alive and kicking. Something distinctly MD would be to have a get together in old town Annapolis. It's beautiful and lots of bars, clubs, hotels and very nice this time of year. Does everyone in the MD thread know about the j & j tomorrow at the ummm...I forget. a hotel. I should find out. I'm supposed to be there. Oops
