home is where the heart is…

I might not fit here at the moment since I am not in or arund Maryland, unless you consider around as close as the West Coast. I am a native Washingtonian and grew up in Virginia and Washington D.C. I liked taking date up to the inner harbor and I was actually stationed in Curtis Bay, MD.

Eventhough I am moving to S.F. from N.Y.C., I still have family and friends in the metropolitan area. Oh, I still have my accent, but it's mixed up with a New England and a N.Y.C. accent, go figure! :D Anyway, I just wanted to say, "hello" and besides I will always return home twice a year. You gotta visit the old stomping grounds every once and a while. :p

Perhaps you will pass me on my next visit and we will never realize how life works strange ways…

Re: home is where the heart is…

you're always most welcome in maryland - i was born and raised here in the land of pleasant living but lived in several different states as an adult - i always come "home" to maryland - i like it the best - the people, the countryside, the weather, the traditions, just everything about it - like the ad says........

Several States as an adult? Are you growing younger there? :p

I liked going to Ocean City, but after a while, it became very commerical and looked more like a strip mall then a beach. I use to go crabbing with my father in Annapolis and sea fishing around Cape May. I miss those times when I would drive to Baltimore with friends because we wanted to check out the night life in Baltimore and hit Fells Point (sp). I spent most of time around the beltway going to Rockville for dinner with friends or going on a winding drive down River Road.

So, now it's different cities and new discoveries, but I do agree about "home" and I will enjoy my visits twice a year, but I will also have to return to NYC on the way—the city I became and *adult* in and where friends and history are alike.

Hey all

Good to see some locals...it seems everyone I talk to is from Australia...haha...what a country to be from though eh? Myself I am just another displaced Irishman..haha...looking for a decent pint in this town...actually I think the best pub in the area is Murphy's in Alexandria...haha...but anyway nice to meet everyone. I will leave you all with one of my poems to digest...live life to the fullest and never miss a chance to smile.

I wrote this one before I went to Alaska last summer...if you haven t seen the midnight sun..you must do it before you die.

Fair Winds

May your seas be calm
May the storms pass gently as you make your way
May your days be long
And your sunsets be spectacular

May the night hold you gentle in her arms
As you slide into your dreams
And may the angels keep you safe from harm
May the stars be there to guide you

May the beers be strong and the brandy mellow
May the wines be sweet and misty
May the laughter flow to all good fellow
And may the maidens dance till dawn

May the dolphins play in your wake
And the gulls guide you safe to dry land
May your harpoon be always sharp to keep the sharks at bay
And your nets be full of the finest catch

May the wind be constant by your side
And your rudder be keen as a razor
As you cut through crest and tide
May you sails be always full of God's breath
And the waves rock soft and gentle

May your anchors weigh
And your mast be strong and stark
May the sun shine warm upon the bay
And fortune be in your horizon

And in your darkest hour
As the rocks jut out and you are tossed about
May light shine from the tower
To guide you safe to port
Fare thee well my friends
May your winds always be fair

Wow I am amazed at all the O's fans here-nice to know that we Baltimoreans have something other than Old Bay and O'Malley in common!
