In 1942, Dr. Abraham Erskine perfects his Super Soldier Formula and turns military recruit Steve Rogers into Captain America. Rogers is shipped off to war, and while in the process of creating more Super Soldiers, the lab is mysteriously bombed and all knowledge of the formula is lost. A few scientists tried to recreate it from Roger's blood, but in 1944 Captain America's plane crashed into the sea and he was listed as "Missing in Action."

Over the years, other attempts at creating performance enhancers all ended in failure, until that fateful day in 2004 when Oscorp Industries employees Richard Parker, Curt Conners, Reed Richards, and Victor von Hassen made the first breakthrough in cross-species genetics. Parker, the leader of the project and good friends with CEO Norman Osborn, discovered the horrible things his friend was planning, destroyed the research, and tried to flee with his family. Unfortunately, their car mysteriously exploded, killing both Richard and his wife, Mary. Their eight-year-old son Peter ended up in a coma for five weeks, but survived, although he had no memory of the accident. To spare him the pain of revealing his parents may have been murdered, they just told him it was a really bad car accident. He had no memory of what really happened and was no threat to Osborn, so the boy was left alone.

It is now ten years later. Peter Parker is a senior at Midtown High, and he is about to turn eighteen years old. Von Hassen has moved up to COO and Executive Vice-President of Oscorp, Reed Richards now works for Stark Industries in a joint program with NASA, and Curt Conners works both as an Oscorp scientist and a genetics professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University.

I'm thinking at the start of this RP, it is a few months before Peter turns 18 (no sexual situations will occur until after he has turned 18). A few weeks prior to the RP, Peter became Spider-Man, and is still adjusting to the change. Dr. Conners knows of this and is helping Peter to deal with the situation and test his blood, but in reality, he is just interested in growing back his arm, and thinks that if he can recreate Peter's accident with a lizard instead of a spider, he can achieve this goal. This creates a chain of events that leads to a cross-species virus that becomes known as the "Mutant Outbreak."

Before the outbreak, there were no mutants, much like the world portrayed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But after, mutants begin popping up all over the place. Your characters can be one of these new mutants, or previously have powers from some other source. I would like us to refrain from using magic, though, so Doctor Strange is out, at least as a sorcerer, lol. Maybe we can bring him in as an alien later or something.

Since this outbreak is the birth of mutants, I'm thinking maybe we could have alternate versions of Wolverine, Xavier, and Magneto that are just normal people at first. Maybe Wolverine is a motorcycle riding, cigar-smoking, beer-drinking security guard at a bar, lives in a trailer, and used to be a famous boxer in his younger days. Maybe Xavier is a paraplegic Physics professor much like Stephen Hawking, and the outbreak gives him control of his body again and even more control of his mind. Maybe Magneto is Xavier's former student and long-time colleague, and the outbreak gives him the ability to control metal and sets him down a darker path.

Other than Spider-Man, I will definitely be playing Reed Richards as a mentor type figure who gets his stretching powers from the outbreak. If someone wanted to play Gwen Stacy/Mary Jane/Kitty Pryde/Felicia Hardy for Peter and Sue Storm for Reed, that would be awesome. It would also be cool if someone was on board to play Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm. I am open to any suggestions potential RPers might have :).

Must I threaten your life to get invited to these things?!

PS: Even though Ben 10 is totally doing a monster arc right now I can play anything. I'll be good I promise.

I'd be willing to play..but I'm afraid I only know what's in the movies in regards to characters history/stories.

I didn't invite you Sean because you stalk my posts anyway, so I figured if you were interested, you'd post ;). And hi coax! Are you male or female? I want to keep equal pairings.

Oh, nvm, I just read your profile, Coax, lol. Damn. You describe yourself to be one hot thang ;). Yes, I just said thang. That's right -- it happened.

I'm intrigued. A few questions:

1) Are all 'magic' characters excluded? Juggernaut, for instance. I can certainly understand a ban on sorcerers, as magic use is far too often an excuse to godmode in threads like this. Characters like Thor, Longshot, and Shatterstar are all magical in origin but not generally considered magic-wielders.

2) Are the FF mutants in this or cosmic in origin? I am intrigued by playing the Thing.

3) Is this going to be a team thing, like X-Men, or a group thing like the Defenders, or something else entirely? You've given us information about the world. I could use a bit more information about the plot. I don't need to know everything, nor would I want to, just a bit more to get a sense of where you want to go with this.

4) Are we restricted to mutant characters? Would Iron Man be an appropriate character? Or Black Panther? What if I played a character with the combined abilities of Power Pack, like the girl in the first X-Force Annual?

And here's a link, just so you know I can write and have a bit of experience with online RP.

Yeah, the FF get their powers from the outbreak, and if you wanted to play Iron Man or Thing, that would be fine. As for characters that have powers that are magic in origin, I'd like to keep it more realistic and have them instead based on some sort of advanced alien technology that resembles magic. Like, maybe many centuries ago, a meteor crashed in Scandinavia and the radiation gave powers to a young Odin and the first Frost Giants. Maybe metal from the space rock was used to form Thor's hammer and Loki's scepter. From the radiation alone, Thor gets accelerated healing and superhuman strength and stamina, but when he holds his hammer, the close proximity to the material from the meteor enhances his powers to include flight and lightning. Maybe Dr. Erskine's formula is based partially on pieces of that meteor that survived to modem day.

So, that actually create an alternate option for powers. If someone wants powers prior to the outbreak, maybe they somehow got their hands in an artifact made of that meteor metal.

As for Odin and Thor and Loki and the Frost Giants, we could say their final battle took place on a fleet of old Viking ships in the middle of the ocean and ships in a desperate attempt to destroy them, the leaders of the Frost Giants unleashed a huge wave of ice-cold air, freezing the battle in place and sinking them all to the bottom of the sea. Maybe now, a thousand years later, deep-see explorers uncover the frozen Asgardians, or an underwater earthquake causes thermal vents to open or some other thing happens to cause them to begin thawing out and reawaken.

As for a team, yes, I was thinking our characters will eventually become the Avengers. As for story, I am keeping it open. I'm thinking the initial story arc deals with mutant animals wreaking havoc in the streets, and our characters are all in close proximity to Central Park in Manhattan and join together to stop a group of super monkeys that have taken over the park. Then they come together and fight other mutants, eventually leading to a battle against the Lizard and Green Goblin before the city is secured and the outbreak stabilizes. From there, we would deal with a nee, emerging world where superpowers are common and the challenges that come from living in such a world. The Goblin will return and be more of a threat the second time, and we'll also gradually bring in Electro, Doc Ock, Sandman, Venom, and the Brotherhood of Mutants. If we think in terms of a show, the outbreak crisis is a multi-episode origin arc, while the first season as a whole leads up to a final battle against a Sinister Six/Brotherhood of Mutants team up. In the second season, Victor von Hassen will gradually start to lose his sanity and will become Doctor Doom. He will be the ultimate antagonist for the second season. Then as we roll into the third season, we find out Loki was responsible for Doom's madness and he becomes the next main anagonist, ultimately leading to an adaptian of the Avengers movie where we have the Battle of New York.

This is all, of course, subject to change.

I think I found my character. Submitted for your approval:

QUASAR

Wendell Vaughn is one of the deadliest men in the world. An ex-Navy SeAL, he has never failed to accomplish a mission. Sgt. Vaughn was not asked to re-enlist due to his history of insubordination and disrespect to superior officers while off duty.

Wendell Vaughn grew up in Wisconsin, an avid hunter who spent hours and sometimes days out in the woods. His father was a forester and they never had much money. After he graduated from high school Wendell went down to the recruiting station and enlisted in the navy. He aced the ASVAB and turned down nuclear technician and air traffic controller, the two highest paying specialties, to go special forces.

As a Seal, Wendell got to see the worst parts of the world, at their worst. whether parachuting in or sent in undersea from a sub, Wendell went in with his team, accomplished their mission and got extricated. As his enlistment continued planning kept making mistakes. Bad intel, wrong drop sites and far too often they had to extricate themselves. Once Wendell was leading these missions he would find ways to voice his 'disappointment' with the situation without committing insubordination. He would meet up with his superior officers at bars and read them the riot act, always off duty and always where there were no witnesses. Often he would be transferred to another command. In one of the worst incidents he accepted a sparring match from his base commander, under unusual conditions, and knocked him out with one punch. By the end of his term he had three command level officers looking for any excuse to give him a dishonorable discharge. Wendell didn't give them that chance. However, at the end of his enlistment the Navy did not offer him a re-up.

Wendell drifted for a bit after that, working odd jobs and eventually hooking up with a mercenary company that had him guarding cargo freighters from pirates. The pay was good, the responsibilities light and he had a lot of time to evaluate his life. Too much time really. He ended up doing a lot of reading and star gazing.

Wendell bought a small home on a large piece of property in an unincorporated township in New Hampshire. He used solar for energy and chopped wood for heat. He was living completely off the grid. That's when he got hit by the meteor. Or so he thought.

It wasn't a meteor. It was the quantum bands. They brought Wendell into the quantum zone as they bound themselves permanently to his wrists.

When Wendell didn't arrive for his next voyage and his company couldn't reach him by phone they didn't call the cops, or notify next of kin, they simply terminated his contract.

It took him three months to find his way back out of the quantum zone. He came back to Earth in New York City.

Wendell only understands the rudiments of his powers. Flight, invulnerability, and power blasts. He's entered the Quantum zone but is wary of venturing there again.

You didn't mention anything about there being a SHIELD in this universe yet.

I've always liked the idea of SHIELD being formed in response to the super human's affect on the world.

Um, a few problems with your character. First off, he would not be a Sergeant -- ranks in enlisted Navy are Seaman/Fireman/Airman Recruit/Apprentice, Petty Officer 3rd/2nd/1st Class, Chief Petty Officer, Senior Chief Petty Officer, and Master Chief Petty Officer. Usually it takes 15-20 years to make Chief. My dad was Navy and left as a PO 1st Class after 16 years.

As for being a SEAL, in addition to basic training, he would have had to go through nearly two years of advanced training before ever seeing any action. Usually a SEAL unit has 16 men led by a Lieutenant that can split up into fireteams of four men. If your character was in long enough to receive a command of his own fireteam, he would already be into at least his second enlistment tour of duty. Upon enlisting, young men and women usually pick terms of four to six years to start. So, if your character made it to three different commands in only six years with two of those in training, he would not have been on bad terms with superior officers, lol.

As for his powers, how the fuck did he get the bands? What that fuck is the quantum zone? Who the fuck sent the bands to him? Lol.

I based most of this off of information I've gathered from Rangers. It makes sense that Seals are different. Two terms of service isn't a problem. And yeah, PO second class, not sergeant, what e-5 is in the navy. Or I can make him a Ranger and have most of it still fit.

If you don't like the quantum bands falling to earth I can have Wendell find them on a skeleton in a cave on one of his hikes, which is pretty much how SHIELD got them in the original continuity; they took them off the corpse of the original Marvel Boy. He got them from the Eternals who found them in a Kree weapon depot on one of Uranus' moons. How the Kree got them was never revealed.

The Quantum zone is the underlying foundation of the cosmos. Travel through it allows Quasar to effectively teleport throughout the multi-verse, once he learns how.

I said I wanted to keep it more realistic and you have magical bands appear out of nowhere with no reason why they appeared and suddenly give him the potential to go anywhere in the multiverse and be invulnerable, lol. I'd say you kind of overdid it, lol.

Interesting appraisal of the situation. I withdraw my application. If you'd like I can delete my earlier posts.

Been a long time since my last rp here, this one seems interesting. I was thinking of an alternative version of Venom, based a bit on the movie Attack The Block, I was thinking a former street gang kid who wanted more of life but had no options with his poor upbringing as an orphan and the gangs controlling the neighbourhoods, he is forced to join one of the gangs during a recruitment in the orphanage and later on he becomes a criminal robbing people and banks, he doesn't like killing but has been forced to commit such actions or risk losing his own life or the lives of others. Then a meteor containing the symbiont known as Venom in Marvel crashes into a car while he's on patrol, seeking to loot the car for some cash for his hidden stockpile he is engulfed by the symbiote and becomes Venom, with Carnage's powers.

Iam working on a character sheet at the moment, so far is this what I've got.

Name: Thomas Hatchet
Street Nickname: Bonebreaker
Hero Name: Venom
Age: 19

Super Powers: Alien Symbiote, grants superhuman strength/endurance/agility/senses/stamina, Though it requires a living host in order to survive, the Venom Symbiote has been shown to be adept at fending for itself independent of a host. The Symbiote is capable of shape shifting abilities, including the ability to form spikes or expand its size, as well as mimic the appearance of other humanoids after it has obtained a host. The organism can additionally use its shape-shifting abilities to conceal itself by altering its colouration or by becoming completely invisible. It also contains a small "dimensional aperture," allowing its hosts to carry items without adding mass to the costume. The Symbiote also exhibits telepathic abilities, primarily when it needs to communicate with its host.

NOTE: As Venom has yet to make contact with Spiderman, has it yet to develop the spider powers that Peter Parker has, thus Venom i nits current state has no spider powers and is thus mutating in a different fashion then the original.

Regular Abilities: High School education (low), naturally intelligent but not well educated, high instincts, red belt in karate and a regular participant in the underworld's wrestling matches/tournaments, knows how to handle mechanics from simple clockwork toys to highly sophisticated cars, above average athletic capacities and has a slight photographic memory.

Weaknesses: The Venom Symbiote is vulnerable to fire and sonic waves, causing it great pain and exhaustion if it sustains enough exposure. Lone wolf tendencies, lack of trust to others, has a bit of a short temper and will react to violence with violence, he also will kill if he has to.

Peronality: Thomas himself is a bit of a wild child, he seeks to be free of the dark slums and take down the gangs and crime lords causing others like him such a dark and grief life, he will then make his own path in the world and ensure that he will never go back to the life of the slums. He doesn't want to be a thug, but has developed a bit of a short temper and physical skills needed to be one to survive. Blood has stained his hands a good bit, from either innocent victims or rival gang members, from other gangs and his own, thus he can kill if he sees no other way but to do so.
He is a kind person at heart, even though he covers it up with a cold and indifferent personality so does he discretely help others and attempt to make things better for others, and himself, as well. Thomas is a smart boy but he has a lot of lack in discipline, average education and other sophisticated social skills.

Description: 5'6" tall, well toned but not bulky in muscle mass, shaved head, dark skin, black tattoo of a wolf over his left bicep, a pair of green eyes, two claw like scars over his left cheek and around several other minor scars over his back, chest, arms and legs.
Appearance (Images): Human

Venom

Background: Born of a hooker and left at an orphanage was Thomas life from start nothing but a bleak and dark gloom, even if he attempted to keep u pa good cheer with the few kind people around him was the world so dark and held no promises of a good future. It went even worse when at the age of fourteen he was taken in by the street gang known as the Black Wolves, one of the bigger gangs and you do not say no to a recruitment or your ass is grass, or buried beneath the grass.
He spent years being trained by other thugs into a proper little tool of violence and death, the gangs gave him one positive thing though, they sent their thugs to school. Not the bst of educations and the money ordinarily received by students were given to the gangs but still the education gave Thomas a view into possibilities and new ways to escape the pisshole he was living in.
Another thing the gangs did were enlisting their more successful and strong thugs into the Underworld arenas in tournaments and matches in mixed martial arts. Thomas had learned karate and wrestling from his thug teachers and with his cunning intelligence and instincts he made short works of most low rating enemies, he even managed to take down a professional wrestler hired in by another gang to make easy cash on the matches. Sure he had his own shares of bruises, cuts and broken bones but he fought, recovered, trained and learned, returning even stronger then before, intent on surviving and getting out of the streets.
He's currently in his last year at high school, the studies are kept at the same level but he sneaks off into libraries to learn more and even hitch rides into the richer parts of town to get a better look on books. But the balance of power between the gangs of the streets of New York was getting croaked, with a sudden rise of new gangs, old members killed off by younger members and leaders being replaced by hot shots with strange abilities was the slums slowly and steadily turning into hell on earth, even more then they were before.
Then one night as he was robbing a young woman in a dark alley came a small spec of light from the sky and struck a fancy looking car just a couple of feet away, the car was busted and the impact sent both him and his victim into a startled jump. The woman managed ot run off, her necklace broke as he had a grip on it, but she got away with it, pocketing the necklace the thug moved over to the car, it was expensive, most likely owned by a big guy's son or one of the crime lords, but its contents were too precious to leave alone. He got into the wreck and took hold of a hand bag, a wallet and several other packages inside the trunk before he went for the back seat and was engulfed by a black slimy goo, engulfing him before he could do as much as scream.
When he woke up he was lying on the ground of one of the parks in the area, he was covered by a pitch dark outfit, his mouth replaced with a gaping maw of teeth with a long flexible tongue, his eyes and nose gone as well, two large white glowing splats on his face was his new eyes and out of his back were several black tendrils growing. Then out of the back of his mind, a voice spoke up. "We can bring you the power you need to get out of these streets. All we ask, all we need, is for you to wear us in return." That was the start of an odd friendship between alien symbiote and human street thug.
Thomas began to act behind the scenes, fighting thugs, protecting innocents, killing the murderers and rapists of the streets, making everyone fear their own shadows as the invisible killed stalked them at night. For over two months has he worked alone amongst the streets, killing, protecting and guarding, while also improving his own ways by stealing cash from the thugs and others, his stash was growing and hopefully he would have enough soon to leave the streets, but first he had to clean things up, there would be no cruel and ruthless thugs left unmarked by him and he would place the heads of every bad gang leader and crime lord at the stairs of the police, he would purge crime from these slums, they were the vermin and he their Venom.

What do you think?

Hmmmm. If he's already been Venom for a while, maybe we start off the RP with Spidey running into him brutally killing a rapist and they end up in a moral debate which leads to a slugfest? :). As of right now, it seems it's just me, you, Sean, and Coax. Sean, who did you want to play? I am discussing characters with Coax via PM.

If you don't mind dealing with a tad bit of racism given your original story I was thinking of playing the "original" Captain America. This would be based loosely on an actual Marvel Story from a few years back that basically asked "did you really think 1942 America TESTED a dangerous chemical compound on a white guy first? And then runs from there. I'd be working with a modified Captain America power set, no Shield but I'd need a custom weapon of some sort. I guess immortality just so it's explained why he's still about.

He'd have to have been in hiding all these decades. The reason it took so long to get anywhere with performance enhancers/ cross-species genetics is that Steve Rogers, the only living super soldier, went missing in action in 1944, and so they could no longer test samples of his blood. He could have been one of the super soldiers that was at the lab when it was bombed, and maybe he escaped but went into hiding because HYDRA was after him or something. Or you could say Steve Rogers knocked up a bitch before his plane went down and his powers were passed along to his son or something.

Him being in hiding works just fine. The world is a big place and I imagine that much like Abomination there simply have to be a few fucked experiments running about. But he was either released as a failure or escapped and did a damn good job of staying out of sight. Perhaps with a few scattered sightings throughout the years. Something akin to Black Panther who depending on which telling in Marvel nobody believed was a real guy for a long time (and had while from a different source quite similar skill and power set to Cap. Not sure I want to go that direction but could work.)

I think that your character might be a possible second attempt of a Captain America or even another volunteer who was injected by the same serum. Only he didn't get frozen in the Arctic and with Captain America taking all the spot lights and glory shots was he more of a deep in the mud soldier who fought with super powers against the Axis forces, possibly not even in Germany but in Asia or Italy, or somewhere else.

For a personal weapon for a super soldier of Captain America's calibre with base training of the military would I suggest a blade or possibly a war hammer, sort of like a maul. But those are just my suggestions.

Does anyone got any ideas for my character or is he good as he is? I like the idea of him and spidey having a debate before beating each other up, it could be possible for him to even assimilate some of spidey's powers if he can obtain a genetic sample from him right?

If he manages to hide from the government for decades, he would have been able to do it very well. If they had even a hint that there was a super soldier still in existence, they would have a team of CIA agents and military special forces bent on capturing him, like Jason Bourne.

As for Venom, you could have tentacles that absorb powers from others, so not only could he get some of Spidey's powers, but others as well.
