I just spent an hour looking through the Martha Stewart Living Holiday - Halloween issue. It's filled with great ideas that look pretty easy, economical, and frightingly clever.

It has a cool setup. The "Bad Things," which are more scary, are on one side of the magazine, and if you flip it over, the "Good Things," which are not so scary, are on the other. Seriously, there is something for everyone. ;) There are sections on treats, meals, decorations, and no-sew costumes. Plus instructions, patterns, and templates for all the stuff you can make.

We had an adult Halloween party a few years ago, and used ideas from that year's issue quite a bit. The party was great, and people were impressed. You can find additional goodies and more costume ideas at marthastewart.com.

I know y'all are probably a bunch of Martha haters, but if you're crazy about Halloween, check out the magazine anyway.

*screams in horror and almost runs away* how could you????

okay on a serious note, Martha Stewart happens to be the bane of my existance, simply because she is the Symbol of a wonderful housewife, great cook and a master of the craft (not an intentional wiccan or pagan pun)

Alas. I have been watching the summer reruns of her show simply because they're new to me and also because I secretly love what she does. (even though you wuold never catch me with a hot glue gun in my hands)

So, if you like martha stewart, have children under 13 you might like family fun also. Lots and lots of cool stuff in there!

cringeing at the thought of Martha Stewart in my house.

I dig Martha. What can I say?

If you tear the front and back covers off the magazine, you can pretend she doesn't exist. I don't think she appears elsewhere.

Bite your tongue! I offer tasteful flowers and fresh baked scones at the altar to this domestic goddess once a month (whenever a new issue hits the stands). In fact, as a Martha priestess, I bid you welcome, welcome, welcome (please wipe your feet on the welcome mat that I made myself there) to our quiet, peaceful, environmental and very tasteful cult. Remember, they who read HER shall have good things all the days of their lives, and they shall know the wonder of a sparkling clean and well-organized home, of monthly flower arrangements and easy-to-make meals. Know that HER recipes will never fail you, HER recommended gifts to neighbors and friends will always please, and HER suggestions for making children happy will leave them with fond, nostalgic memories of handmade decorations, fun school lunches and clip art.

Cherish that sacred Halloween issue, for it will give you glorious ideas for your party. And look ye for the issues that will follow: the blessed Thanksgiving Day issue, which will help you to make a perfect turkey as well as cute place settings, and the Holy Holiday issue, which will guide you in creating Christmas cookies and hot chocolate. These venerated trio will be followed by the New Year's and Valentine's issue which, while not as a great, are yet as wonderful! Yes, you have come to the temple of Martha at exactly the right time. Welcome, welcome, welcome!

lol

I did see a thingee for scrapbooking which had oragami patterns with it. I can dig that. never thought about scrapbooking till i flipped through the channels when she was showing something about it. Every one is on this earth for a reason.

Martha was put here so I could loathe the thought of not geeking out my Thanksgiving and Christmas parties. ( I celebrate halloween by reading Laurell K. Hamilton. Good Sex mixed with horror.)

I thought this was another Halloween contest story thread. Well, it scared me.

My favorite Martha moment is from her Christmas special several few years back, when she and the late Julia Childs were each making the same pastry thing, and Martha told Julia, basically, nice try.

*pouts* now see I can't get that magazine, well not without paying out the ass for shipping. Ah well you'll just have to share the yummy its with us. Although the woman does annoy me I do like some of the stuff she does.

try googling her webpage. You get whats in the mag for free ( minus the cost of electricty to run computer and to have internet service)

You don't get everything from the magazine on the web page. However, what's there is well worth looking at.

Her recipe for gingerbread cookies is awesome. I've made them several times for Christmas and bakes sales and whatnot, and people rave about them.

If she was in our house, she'd do a two hour special, "Martha Stewart Does An Intervention"

I got a big snowflake cookie cutter last year and made these. They actually looked very similar, really pretty. I piped the frosting on and then dusted it with sanding sugar before it dried, so it sparkled. I think the trick is to roll them kind of thick and then only bake them until they are just barely starting to brown and look completely dry. That way, they come out kind of soft but strong enough not to break. Also, line your baking sheets with parchment paper.

October Issue

I haven't yet gotten the Halloween issue, but I did get the October issue. Maybe they share some of the same Halloween ideas, but if not, you might want to check it out. Some really cool ones.

Among the ones that I loved were the witches' broom candy bags:

And the pumpkin with a quill on it:

I think that suits the home a writer, don't you?

I saw the magazine the other day. I considered getting it, but decided not to.
Then I saw your thread, and it made me really want it, lol. So yesterday while I was grocery shopping, I looked for it.
I couldn't find it. :( *sigh* I'll have to hunt again soon. I want, I want.. I need, I need! lol.

P.S. I saw in a magazine a couple years ago, a really cute idea. :)
(I don't think it was Miss Martha's though.) Anyway, you get some big obnoxious pumpkins.... and then you hollow them out... and then you put ice in it.. and then you add pop/beer/etc! It makes a festive cooler! How freakin' cute is that! I was going to use that for a party I was having a couple years ago, but I didn't end up having the party. It'll happen this year though. :)
And maybe Martha will have some other cute ideas too. :D

Yes! Perfect. I couldn't find a picture of it to post, but I did find the spider web eggs.
Found pictures. I edited them into my post. Very cool!

I got my issue the other day and I've been jumping up and down!
I love the rats going up the staircase.

I've been cutting out my own shillouette (sp) designs from car window film. Get the static cling kind, it works great.

I love those too! All the sillhouettes are so clever.
