Working on a story where a wife is approaching 50 and it is hitting her hard. 30 & 40 were no big deal, but this is different.

She decides she's tired of being the good wife and mother and wants to go wild. She wants a one night stand with an 18-20 year old or even have a long weekend with one who doesn't get wiped out and immediately falls asleep after an orgasm. While it's unlikely, there is still a risk of pregnancy but she wants no protection even though her husband was fixed after the birth of their last kid.

She's been out of the dating pool for a while and is not sure what to do.

1. Hang out at bars near colleges or universities? This could appear sad where an older woman is trying to recapture her youth and just ends up being more of a joke.

2. Dating site for marrieds? This seems like the best option though many of the sites to me seem to be more of a scam where you have lots of men join but very few actual women.

3. Goes after friends of her children? For me this seems like crossing a line, but could still be interesting.

4. Randomly meets some guy at work, or a new neighbor and they feel an instant spark which is what begins the sudden need for the wife to go wild?

5. One out there idea is that she "discovers" the man-o-sphere and becomes obsessed with Alpha Males or discovers the incel community and wants to pull one of them out.

6. Joins a site similar to Literotica and frequents the message board, mainly the personals page and eventually hooks up with someone.

I'm sure there are other options out there that I can't think of. I'm leaning towards the dating site for marrieds idea, but am open to other ideas or suggestions.

A pretty common idea. one with a lot of options. So we're definitely in the LW category. I'd do a situation where she's complained to her best friend who's single and her friend gets an idea and books them on a cruise. The husband thinks it would be nice for her to get away for a while and unwind, now that the kids have moved out. So she goes, only to find out that it's a lifestyle cruise. It takes her into a separate world and she loses herself in it. Just goes completely sex crazy. When she gets home she's either scratched the itch and is sated or she realizes this is what she wants now and her marriage has to change to reflect it.

Now, I don't do cheating stories so I would put the husband in the role of that best friend. Maybe the swinger/lifestyle idea has always been the fantasy they talked about but never pulled the trigger due to life/work/kids/responsibilities, but now with the kids in out-of-state universities and their careers set, he surprises her with the cruise and they both go. Their first night with a mid-thirties couple is nothing short of life-changing.

Yes, the story would definitely be in the LW category. I love the idea of the of the best friend pushing her to go for it, though I would have her be married as well, but unwilling to consider doing anything similar herself, which annoys her friend. I also like the husband having a hand, unwittingly of encouraging her to step out. At first it's just playful banter between the couple, but it becomes more than that as the wife approaches her big birthday.

That touches on an idea I had, but forgot to include it. The friend really isn't a friend and offers to set her up on "dates". She charges the men several hundred dollars a pop and doesn't tell the wife. Eventually she does find out...

... what the OP needs to do, and I'm sure would not omit if writing the actual story, is expand more on the "50 is different" and "she decides" setting. The build-up, as you put it. It simply is not good enough to leave a reader trying to swallow a quantum jump in her mindset of that order without having some detail as to why she should suddenly change her behaviour.

This is where so many of the stories I've read on Literotica fall down. I'm relatively new here but I'm beginning to think it's the majority. There is scant effort put in - the "hard work", as you might call it - to make things credible, to convince. I for one need that. Maybe others don't but it makes you wonder what possible value a writer can place on that kind of readership.

Oh yes! A "Long Night's Journey into Day" lol. You can just imagine the shenanigans as each realises the other is on the prowl, looking for sex without them! Scope for a great and unexpected ending.

I tend to agree but I will say that I've known several people who after some type of event went through a fairly dramatic change in some aspect of their life.

For example in my story it begins with the woman approaching 50. However it's the pushing and encouragement of the friend that makes it actually happen. It may change as I work on the story but that is the basic outline for now.

If you or anyone have any other ideas or thoughts I'd love to hear them.

You could go for something obvious like discovering her husband is watching porn or has actually had an affair. Perhaps the friend could come out with some revelations showing how much she is savouring "cutting loose" - our heroine becomes jealous..?

But I do sympathise with the thought that it definitely needs some elaboration. You can't just pitch into what almost amounts to a change of character without giving readers the chapter and verse.

It might be interesting to have her deciding on one naughtiness route and pursuing this in vain... only to end up succeeding fortuitously in another. She could try visiting bars, as you suggested, but then in total frustration when nothing happens visiting the ladies room and rougeing up, tearing her skirt and parading the street in front of the bar in question, along the lines suggested by LM.

Okay, so LW. Be aware that you're going to get dinged just by having her cheat if she gets away with it. There are some GREAT stories out there that are about cheating in LW that are never going to clear the 4 star level just because that category has changed so much since the site started. That said, solid characterization and motivation can be the difference between solid reader engagement and the 2-3 star bin.

Yes, she needs a better motivation than "I dunno, I turned 50." That's the motive of a BTB story, not a sexy cheating/swinging/hotwife story. It an be PART of the motive, but more often it's like a warning light. "I'm 50, which is making me feel restless BECAUSE..." Because why? Some possibilities:

• I've watched other women in my circle cheat or get divorced and seen how much happier they seem.
• My husband cheated, and fuck him.
• The kids are gone, and I suddenly have all this time on my hands
• I'm menopausal/premenopausal, and my hormones have gone completely out of whack.
• Now that the kids are gone, I've gotten back in shape and realize I'm a real catch, which my husband seems to have forgotten.
• I'm at the height of my career, and I realize how much I've settled in my current relationship by contrast.
• I've always felt this way, but now the consequences are so much smaller (kids are grown, career is established, etc.)
• My husband is 50+, too, and his sex drive/ability to perform has been dipping more and more. I've done everything I can, but it's him, not me.
• My husband swore he'd slow down as we got older, but he's only ramped up. I'm married to a ghost.

Those are some of the classic boilerplate ones. You could also go more exotic:

• I nearly died because of an accident, and that plus turning 50 really hammered home how few good years I have left.
• My husband cheated and/or has been cheating for a while.
• My childhood sweetheart is single again, and I've always known I settled.
• Experimenting with my husband in our empty nest stage made me understand how vanilla we've always been and now I want to explore, even if he doesn't.
• We got mugged, and I was disgusted at how weak my husband was/how he failed to protect me.
• I've been isolated from my husband physically (he's in jail, quarantine, overseas for months on business, etc.)
• I've been targeted by a man that likes to seduce married women.

Even a little bit of motivation can make the FMC more sympathetic AND drive the story in interesting directions.

How about a couple that visited swing clubs when they were in their 30’s and 40’s. Their turn on was being watched by other couples. As the woman got close to 50 she became self conscious of her body when surrounded by younger women and quit the swinging scene. Years later their finances take a downturn and she suggests to her husband that they perform for other couples and get paid for what they used to do for free. They post an add on Cragslist and get 100’s of responses all from men. The men,clients seem to fall into 3 categories: Power, take charge, Bi and take charge Bi, and plain vanilla. Of course the first time is a show with the husband. Repeat clients become regulars and she becomes an
unofficial “escort”.

I'm not big into women on women, but this is an intriguing idea. Perhaps the friend is encouraging her to get out there hoping that it will lead to them being together.

The wife tries a couple of men who don't manage to scratch her itch. Frustrated, the wife complains to her friend that she may have put her marriage on the line and yet is still not satisfied.

The friend finally gets the courage to say, "well, if you want someone who really understands a woman's body, perhaps you should try another woman"...
