Married Life

xssve, my wife is the WIccan freak. LOL. I'm an atheist, but the ceremony was cool. It was done more like a tribute to love than any sort of religious statement. We were married by a Christian minister friend of ours who had no problem with performing the non-Christian ceremony. She did it as her gift to us.

Brings back memories of my own nuptials. I'm an atheist and my husband is a deist/agnostic/I don't really careist. My husband chose a Unitarian minister who was willing to do a non-religious ceremony. I chose the Rothko Chapel in which we exchanged our vows.

Anyway, congrats.

Thanks everyone. :)

Rumple, I'm sure she will appreciate your sympathies. I'm amazed at how well she handles me, though. I've got this scary reputation around here from a long life of bad things, but she just says, "You don't scare me. Help me cook dinner."

Shwenn, my family are all deeply religious Christians, so I expected to get grief from them over no mention of God in the ceremony. It turned out that they all liked it, though. My aunt, who is so religious I think of her as Jehovah's Character Witness, just said that she didn't think our minister was a Christian minister because she didn't say God. She is, she just respected our wishes and left out the things we don't believe in. Not all ministers would do that. If our friend hadn't agreed to do the ceremony we were going to be ask my sister-in-law's friend who is a lesbian atheist to do one of her standard ceremonies when she marries people. My family would have shit! LOL.

neonlyte, congratulations on 34 years! That's pretty impressive.

Salvor, that would make a great line for a t-shirt. Especially for a coffee shop or something.

:cathappy:

I like her already.

We had a handfasting at our wedding. I think "God" was only mentioned once, and that was in a poem...

Yes, they know. And they know Lisa is a Wiccan. They just don't see this as any sort of viable way to live, so I must be joking. Their thought is how can any human being deny the ONE TRUE GOD and his son, ONE TRUE GOD Jr.

Gotcha.

That does sound familiar.

I don't get that exactly but a great many Christians I meet can't seem to conceive of thinking that enitity doesn't exist. They think I am angry with him or I hate him. When I say he doesn't exist, I'm just trying to hurt his feelings, or something.
