My short story collection, Dirty, Sexy Girls, just premiered on Amazon Kindle tonight.

Tags I used were "erotica," "sex stories" and "punk chicks." It's No. 1 when you search for punk chicks, but I don't think many people will use that search term. I'm way down on the list for the other terms.

What's the best way to market my book?

I am proud to say that after less than a day on Amazon Kindle, Dirty, Sexy Girls has sold a total of one copy!

Wow! I am a professional fiction writer now! Wooooohoooooo!

Marketing?

Get it published by a publisher rather than self-publishing (which isn't all that hard with e-books)

get it reviewed/buzzed about.

get it on as many distribution sites as possible--and onto their category list best-sellers, best-rated lists, as possible.

Back it up regularly with new books released.

Make sure the books are worth reading and meet targeted audience's interests enough to invoke repeat buyers.

Here is a good example, if a bit above the main,

Get listed on a blog as the Must Read,

after having been on the Daily Show.

Post your own web site.

Write like a daemon. It's easy. :D

I'm thinking about the website. I'd like to find an artist to collaborate with, but so far all those I've contacted have begged off.

Your own Web site/blog is only worth it if you have a method to get people to click on your Web site/blog. E-books get sold by having a high profile and spot-on-targeting to browser interest on high-distribution online bookstores with lots of books on offer and high click-on rates--and, best, with favorable reviews linked to them. And then by building a fan base by having another book up every month or so. Synergy.

And you get the best start by being published by a publisher with a lot of books on offer by a lot of authors and having a lot of browsers clicking in often.

Self-publishing is like the personal Web site. It only works if you can get the attention of readers/buyers--which is really, really tough for on author/one book.

So, how is that working for you?

Yeah, my problem with online publishers is that I do not meet their writers' guidelines; my series has incestuous characters, and that apparently freaks them all out. That's where Amazon comes in; they don't care.

I am coming up with a couple of new ideas for characters that could meet the guidelines. We'll see.

Quite good, thanks. And I don't have my own Web site or blog for my published erotica. I let my publishers worry about those.
