Marcel Marceau dies

There's a kind of vest - tight sleeveless thing with lines down the front, that the French call a marcel, after M Marceau.

He was good.

I think If I remember correctly (after so many years...) That David Bowie trained with him!
He will be missed. He was a true pioneer in stage craft and acting schools every where used his "tapes" to teach about physical memory and physicality as a whole.
Damn.
Rest in Peace

You either loved him or hated him. I was one of the former, ever since I read that he named Harpo Marx as his hero.

A real talent. Of course, one bemoans that fact that there will be no final words.

The man lead an astonishing life. Though he is best and always will be known for resurrecting and launching the art of French Mime into world-wide recognition and success, his past was really remarkable. When the Nazi's invaded, his father was taken and died at Auschwitz, Marcel was only 21; he joined the French underground, forging papers so Jewish men could avoid concentration camps, he helped women and children to into Switzerland. He was part of the Freedom Fighters who battled along side Patton's troops in France, and it was to Pattons troops that he gave one of his first, major Mime performances.

A remarkable man in many ways.

Thanks for this. I read something about it early today but this is all new information for me.

A remarkable man, indeed.

I always enjoyed this clip of him speaking in Mel Brook's Silent Movie.
