Manchester baby boy 'bled to death after circumcision'

A four-week-old boy "bled to death" after a home circumcision carried out by a nurse, a court has heard.

Goodluck Caubergs died the day after nurse Grace Adeleye carried out the procedure without anaesthetic, Manchester Crown Court was told.

The jury heard the 66-year-old only used scissors, forceps and olive oil at an address in Chadderton, Greater Manchester in April 2010.

Mrs Adeleye denies manslaughter by gross negligence.

The court heard the medic and Goodluck's parents are originally from Nigeria, where the circumcision of newborns is the tradition for Christian families.

I think anyone would have a problem with that. I do not think there is any Feminist issue going on here. At least I hope not.

The problem is circumcision itself. Plenty of feminists have no problem with that. Circumcision is genital mutilation, and feminists only have a problem with it when it's done to girls.

I would agree that cirumcision is genital mutilation though the consequences seem to be more severe for girls as opposed to boys.

As per the feminist angle, though I am hardly an expert, it looks to me that the movement, like pretty well everything else, is fragmented and you could probably find various positions on any subject somewhere.

The method ued here would be a good argument against the practice.
