Looking for a story, I'm pretty sure it's a LW (I guess it could be non-erotic). Male narrator gets a terminal diagnosis and discovers his wife is cheating on him, same day. He cuts contact with her and outs her to the family in humiliating fashion.
The story is fairly long, and I think it takes place in Denver? The narrator has a LOT of friends, I guess due to his business contacts. One of them is a therapist, who encourages him in a friendly way to speak with his wife. Our narrator maintains a hard line. I think he gets a dog?
Eventually our narrator is on his deathbed. His son & daughter are there and acting weird. He tells them they can't keep secrets for shit, and they might as well let the wife in. But he warns them, she better not start in with a bunch of explanations & apologies. The wife enters the room, and sure enough she DOES start with the explanations & apologies. He tells her "this was a mistake" and makes to throw her out – or I guess have her thrown out, since he's too weak to do it himself anymore. She blubbers that she's sorry for breaking the rules, please don't make her leave etc. And they do have a conversation. Though of course not one that makes her particularly happy.
I think the daughter adopts the dog after our narrator dies?
Anyway: the story is wonderfully written. It is NOT "High Velocity PSA", though they share a lot of plot similarities and are similarly well-written. They might have come out close to each other in time – for sure I read the two of them fairly close to each other.
Any ideas?
