ALL sex is a power dynamic, RG, wherever it comes from. ;)
Well, in a way, all interaction between individuals has power dynamics. In what way is sex a different breed than other things people do?

I don't know if I agree with this or with Charley's comment.

yeah, a lot of people treat the world like a power game, a compensation for people's problems with their psychic penises and whatnots, but I think you can have many interactions with the absence of power roles and that these interactions are often the best interactions.

I mean, how many friendships, real friendships, could a person who treats every interaction as a power struggle have. Friendship is heavily a co-supportive organism to borrow bad self-help terminology.

I think to say that life is a power game or has power dynamics is dumb and lends false credence to the social darwinist assholes. It seems like a justification ritual for assholic behavior. I'm not saying either of you are assholes (Bob forbid), but rather that it's a dumb belief system and when taken to its logical conclusion is done so at the cost of one's soul.

Actually, sex is, very much, about power. Not necessarily te mastery of another human being, but the ability of the individual to exert power over another (as in bring them to orgasm, or please them in the attempt). And life, even friendships, if you consider it carefully, is also of the same nature. People share power in a good friendship. I resepct you; you respect me. Things are equal, but it's an equal share of power. In a poor association, one would attempt to assert power over another.

If this makes little sense, ignore it. I'm drubnk, afterall...

p.s. We need a staggering banana smilie for these type of posts.

I understand, but I do not agree. I don't see it as sharing power (as power indicates that it is to be over another unnamed third party), but rather lending aid, time... friendship to one another in a microcosm world where power does not exist.

Your post about sex makes sense and I'll have to think about the exact reason I still disagree. Perhaps because I believe that the love is a shared experience lacking power that enables the self to gain pleasure from the act of union between two (only applies to stars-in-the-eyes sex acts of course). Not a full explanation, but a belief that sex can exist in a power vacuum.

Perhaps you're thinking too hard in one direction. The respect factor comes into play when neither party attempts to be overly forceful and shows compassion toward the toher. Respect is a big deal in our culture, and way too often overlooked or mistaken. There's respect in sharing power.

Eh...mine was more of a sophistry spinoff on Charley's statement than an actual opinion of mine. I just wanted to question why sex is assumed to be more of a powerplay than other human interaction. I don't think it is. In fact, good sex is very little about that, in the same way as good friendship.

So now women have stooped to telling men how they have to behave? Haven't you learned anything in the past 30 years?

You know what? I'll be the way I am, and fuck you very much.

Bollocks indeed.

I was thinking the same thing.

Even I can see what's wrong with that.
