Quick question, I shaved for my girlfriend the other week....after a few days I started to break out with red marks and a few in grown hairs. Any sugestions on how to solve this problem? I am not on much but I check everyday, feel free to im me with sugestions. Thanks.

Did you trim the hair short first with clippers or scissors? Exfoliate prior to shaving? Shave at the end of your shower with a good shaving gel/cream (like one with tea tree oil in it; King of Shaves gel works really well) and quality, fresh, multi-blade razor (we like the Schick Quattro, but there are other good ones on the market)? Did you try to shave in as few strokes as possible, cleaning the razor very frequently?

What did you do after you shaved? If your skin is prone to irritation or you're not used to shaving, it's a good idea to pat the area dry and apply some hydrocortisone or lidocaine cream (lidocaine is the active ingredient in Bikini Zone and similar [more expensive] "stop razor burn" products, but don't use it before sex because it'll numb you and your partner).

If none of that works or you have irritation in one area primarily, you might want to consider trimming those areas and shaving the ones that aren't so prone to irritation in the future. Or maybe waxing or a depilatory like Magic Shave Powder might work better for you. It all depends on the person.

If your ingrown hairs don't go away with self-care (google it if you don't know how to treat them at home), you may need to go to the doctor. Sometimes they can get very nasty and cause a lot of pain and even infection that requires professional help, so keep an eye on them and make sure you exfoliate and use stuff like tea tree oil in the future.

I've tried this on a number of occassions. In all instances, I got the red bumps and massive itch. I just now use the Wahl to trim it very close. I can shave the balls with no problem, so I do.

Another suggestion I have is you should shave in the same direction of the hair growth instead of against it. You get a closer shave going "against the grain" but I've found less irritation going with it. I've also found that it gets better over time as your body becomes adjusted to you shaving an area that has never been shaved before...and baby powder helps after you dry off completely.

Yup, time is your friend, the skin irritation gets better in time, before long you will hate having hair down south and will prefer to be smooth....be patient, i shave chest, arm pits, as well, can't stand hair, leave it in legs and arms as society really torments men shaving everything unless they're swimming in the Olympics

Get some bikinizone cream after you shave and rub it in all over the area you shaved.

It's a little more sensitive than a guys face.

I used just a trimmer on my spouse so as not to cause much irritation. he has been shaving part of it for a few months and has no irritation there at all.

Electric Shaver

I have been keeping my plums shaved close for years. A few years back I stumbled upon the Phillips Body Groom. It is $30 at walmart. Check it out at www.shaveeverywhere.com. My girlfriend uses it too for her intimate parts.

How close does the body groom shave?

Please describe how it works and how long it takes.

A suggestion...

I have been waxing now for about a year instead. I do it for various reasons but mainly because it feels better when I jog (which I need to do 4-5 times a week to keep my cholesterol down). The girl that does it for me knows her business. It takes about 30 minutes and when she finishes she rubs the area with cream (never fails to give me a huge erection, by the way - she is quite pretty). After that I forget about it for 5 weeks or so. It grows back without hurting and after 6 weeks I do it again.

I highly recommend it.
