So, I've decided to shave from here on out, and shaved for the first time Thursday, then again on Sunday, LOTS of red bumps. A LOT.

I have a girl coming to visit me Friday. How long should it take for these to go away?

How often should I shave?

How long will it take for the skin to toughen up so this doesn't happen any more?

Either get yourself some BikiniZone cream or hydrocortisone and lidocaine/benzocaine cream (the last two aren't bad things to have on hand, anyway). Apply the cream(s) and the razor burn should either go away or be greatly reduced by Friday.

Never, ever shave (or otherwise irritate) razor burned skin! It'll just make the burn worse and could lead to much more serious problems.

Is everywhere you shaved irritated, or is just part of the skin razor burned? If it's just part, you can continue to shave the part that's not irritated. However, make sure you use a good shaving procedure with a quality shave product and multi-blade razor, then follow it up with the cream(s) suggested above.

It can take quite a while for some skin and people to get used to shaving. I have a patch of skin that can not be shaved without major irritation, no matter how or how long I shave. The rest of my skin almost never saw any irritation and stopped getting itchy when I didn't shave within a month or two (of almost daily shaving until that point).

So, your skin may take weeks, many months, or it might not ever adjust to shaving. Once you don't have any irritation, you could try Magic Shave Powder (a depilatory made for ethnic men to use on their faces, so it's more gentle than Nair and the like, but you should still do the test per the instructions) or professional waxing instead of shaving.

On the bright side, you probably learned a good lesson on not trying new things like this when you need to be at your best within a couple of weeks, right? :D
