I like the Mind Control genre only when the mind control is not "all powerful." When the protagonist just snaps fingers or whatever and the subject of desire becomes a robot, the story devolves into one of sadistic victimization and is no longer appealing to me.
Possible scenarios that I have considered writing (and would enjoy reading) include the following:
- Guy or gal who is unintentionally/uncontrollably so appealing to representatives of the target gender that he/she must work to separate the truly interesting liaisons from the multitude of potential random ones. (This is almost true life for female engineering students
The mind control aspect becomes the suggestion that "you don't really want me right now..."
- Guy or gal uses a glamor/psychic disguise that must be carefully crafted to appeal to the chosen target. Protagonist is master of illusion, but it takes so much effort that the target must be worth it. Even then, becoming appealing does not assure romance, it merely enables it.
- Guy or gal is able to exchange bodies only while target is distracted by orgasm. The target's brain needs to shut down defenses for the 'power' to work. Therefore, the protagonist must first get into a situation to provide/induce orgasm before even using the power. However, past uses have put the protagonist in a very appealing body. Note also that in a heterosexual context, gender changes with every exchange. Exchanges may also provide more than sexual advantages. Protagonist assumes the life of rich mogul for example... Possible ends with exchange into dying lover's body so lover can live on...
- The power is a voluntary "do over" like "Ground Hog Day." Keep trying until protagonist succeeds. Do things with impunity knowing that it will all be forgotten tomorrow. The challenge will be to minimize repetition...
- The power is to induce spontaneous orgasm with any skin to skin touch. Protagonist must wear gloves to avoid untenable social situations in professional life etc. In this scenario, protagonist is a do-gooder. He/she seeks out people who need or deserve the orgasms and never exploits the power for personal gain. Nevertheless, some beneficiaries are bound to be grateful. Maybe the protagonist also experiences orgasm when the target person does.
- The protagonist was born with a psychic connection to an unknown other person and can see through that other's eyes. There are lots of voyeuristic possibilities, but the protagonist's goal is to find, meet, and romance the person to whom he/she is connected. The target needs to be hard to find - on a mountain, in an asylum, desert island, or something...
