Makeup and allergies

I've been trying to explain that for ages, to you and my honey.

grace, thank you for explaining it eloquently. You communicated what I could not.

Slightly off-topic, since this is not exactly an allergy-related post...however, recently the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics tested a wide variety of lipsticks for the presence of lead. And what they found should be required reading for every woman who wears lipstick.

More than half of 33 brand-name lipsticks tested (61 percent) contained detectable levels of lead, with levels ranging from 0.03 to 0.65 parts per million (ppm). None of these lipsticks listed lead as an ingredient.
Among the top brands testing positive for lead were:
-L’Oreal Colour Riche “True Red” – 0.65 ppm
-L’Oreal Colour Riche “Classic Wine” – 0.58 ppm
-Cover Girl Incredifull Lipcolor “Maximum Red” – 0.56 ppm
-Dior Addict “Positive Red” – 0.21 ppm

Just thought that all you folks who are interested in using makeup might want to know what you might be putting on your lips and ingesting on a daily basis.

Last month it was hair color. And some other product before that one... Two years ago, RIT brand and others for killing headlice were targeted...
It goes on and on...
And all any of it does is create panic..

Urban Legends. ;)

So many things test positive for lead. We all have lead in our systems. It's only a threat when the levels are over the 'recommended limit'.. so they say. I don't recall the levels. They are bound to have changed anyway since I did.

Hell, even water can kill you if you drink too much, they say.

Shoot... when I was a kid growing up during the 70's, we played in the street, sat close to the TV, and lived in houses held together with lead paint. MOST of us are none for the worse.... still alive to tell about it. hehe ;)

In fact, too much air in the wrong place can kill a person TOO! Unfortunately, I can tell you about at least one example of that 'almost' happening...... first hand. ;)

LOL..yes, embolisms are bad. very bad!

I wear Cover Girl eyeshadow, and eyeliner. I'm not sure about my mascara. I can't normally wear foundation or powder because it breaks my skin out, but have found out here lately that Bare Minerals doesn't. I usually just use a shiny lip gloss because I can't figure out a color of lipstick that doesn't make my full lips look huge. I clean my face with St. Ives apricot scrub.

Neutrogena spf 15 is my base. The color changes as my skin does. I try to make it match but my skin tone changes constantly. This is also a moisture base.

I only wear make up on days I have gigs or am going some where that I want to make a REALLY good impression.

On normal days I might not wear anything.

If I leave the house, I will put on some SPF 15 Oil of Olay.

If I'm going to be out in the sun much. I will spray on some Bullfrog spf, whatever that also helps with the damn bugs.

For mascara, which I also only use on show days I like to use a waterproof black with a curved brush. My eyes water waaaay too much to use anything not waterproof. I think I use Covergirl professional.

I also have some "cream powder base" that I use to cover up the now appearing white age or sun spots. I hate those mother fuckers. I wish I knew how to get rid of them. I can't stand to see them.

When I had allergy problems I used drug store cheap hypo allergenic stuff. I don't buy expensive cosmetics.

Most of what I use is either cover girl, neutrogena or allmay. (sp?)

I have some stuff that my relatives and friends who buy expensive stuff and get freebies sometimes give me.

I have some powder blush and bronzer.

I have a lot of different eye shadows. I often use them instead of liner. I have a coupe of eye liners but I can't seem to put them on well lately unless it's eye shadow and all smudged. I really want to learn to make that cat eye thingie btw.

I have a few lip sticks. I get really cheap stuff there but stuff that stays on a long time.

Oh, I also sometimes use eye shadow as shading under make up and as eyebrow definer.

There is probably more but it only takes me a few minutes to do my "show" make up.

I realized, while at the store today, that I also use St. Ives body scrub about once a week.
