Alright, ladies,

I just dropped $175 buying all new cleansers, moisturizers, and cosmetics, because I've had horrible allergic reactions to something lately, and my doc recommended I start with all new, hypoallergenic makeup, etc.

What do you use? Do you like it? How is it with your skin? What skin type are you?

im not going to be much help since A prefers i dont wear makeup thus i rarely do. i am, however, a lotion fanatic. baby oil all over my skin after i shower, clean and cler morning burst lotion for my face in the morning, clean and clear dual action mosturizer for my face in the evening and after my shower, st ives oatmeal and shea butter lotion before bed.

i do have to be really careful with scents since strong or overly sweet scents trigger migraines for me.

My skin doesn't like just about anything. Lotion-wise I can only use Mary kay. when I can't afford their stuff, I put straight grapeseed oil on my skin. I use oil of olay on my body, alough it causes some acne problems. Not major, just a little so I put up with it cause my skin is so dry that if I'm not careful it will crack and bleed. I try to get lotions and soaps without dyes or perfumes (mary kay doesn't have any of that).

As for makeup, I also buy mary kay (I sell it, so get it cheap). I don't wear makeup too often, but out of the makeups I've used mary kay causes the least problems. I've yet to find a mascara that doesn't cause problems if I wear it too often. I'm actualy MORE allergic to the hypoallergenic mascara.

It's Cover Girl. I use it, too, from time to time. ;)

I like Origins, and Burt's Bees. Mary Kay is good stuff. You sell it eh?

Hypoallergenic mascara is the reason why I'm wearing glasses all this week instead of contacts. My eyes just couldn't take it anymore.

LOL I wouldn't need mascara if I didn't wear glasses all the time. My lashes are dark and long enough to go without when glasses-less, but I need it when I'm wearing my glasses.

When I wear makeup depends on where I'm going and what kidn fo impression I want to make. Frankly, when I'm standing in line, opening car doors and helping kids out of the car I don't wear any makeup. why? Cause no one else is, and wearnig makeup in that situation screams things I dont' want to be screaming to people.

When I go to court, or a doctors visit, I wear some very tastefull and discreet makeup. I don't want to look sexy or whatever, I want to look tasteful and honest.

When I'm going out, I wear some more makeup, cause I like to bring emphasis to what's good on me, and reduce what isn't. Namely I want my eyes to stand out, and the shadows under my eyes to go away. :D

I am just curious why wear makeup if you have a reaction to it? Most women are more beautiful without makeup.

Some women are, but frankly makeup gives a woman 'polish'. And it makes them feel prettier, which makes them more confident. In my case years of illness and prednisone have taken their toll on my face. I look sick. My skin is pale, and I have shadows under my eyes that won't go away. Luckily I wear glasses, so most people don't notice. I always look sick and tired, and some foundation and blush takes care of that. I don't look sick, and that's what's most important to me.

I'm with Gracie on this one. I'm pale and I feel more polished. I'm normally around other women who wear makeup as well. I don't stand out or anything.

Besides, how am I supposed to pick up guys from the supermarket, take them back to my car, and leave a lipstick mark on them if I'm not wearing makeup?

Or the movie theater, or the dentists office, or the post office, or the bank...

LOL

i use Cetaphil cleanser and witch hazel on my face. Witch hazel is the only thing that keeps me from breaking out around my chin.

As for makeup, i use eye makeup only pretty much. Black mascara, black or charcoal liquid liner, black/gray/white eyeshadow. i always wear nail polish as well and that is usually red.

I use plain 'ol Dove soap and the Loreal line of skin care products. I have used them for years and never had a problem. I started using moisturizer and eye cream when I was 19. I look younger than I am and people frequently guess my age to be 12-14 years less than it really is. I will spend my last dollar on eye cream!

For makeup and I have recently starting using Bare Minerals and I love it! It feels so light yet it covers well. I still use my favorite Maybelline mascara and Loreal eyeshadow though.

The cleanser, toner and moisturizer I bought yesterday are from Biotherm's Biosensitive line.

It's just the first day, but I love how they make my skin feel.

I rarely wear make up but when I do it is Loreal. I have tried just about all the big brand names in skin care and make-up, and a few less known ones as well and Loreal is the best I have found by far. I have never washed my face with soap (legacy of having big sisters who dabbled in modelling and learnt all these things while I was still a child :cathappy: ). Loreal can have some fairly significant effects if used every day. When I was in my last job and began buying the skin care products, my co-workers thought I was crazy until they noticed my fine lines disappearing and my skin looking better every day. My mother also began to notice a huge change and has in recent years gone end bought up on the skin care range and though now in her 80's and battle scarred by life, people have begun to ask her what she is doing to remove the wrinkles they have noticed disappearing. Unfortunately I have got a bit slack on it lately due to not having a place to lay it out amidst the renovations and plans, so F has reminded me I need to get back in the habit before it's too late.

Catalina :catroar:

Catalina- that sounds remarkable! My boss, who's nearly 60, uses Loreal, and her skin is amazing... but then, she also has 'island' skin... our air is very moist here, it's a rarity that you have dry skin. Hers is lovely.

That being said, I've tried loreal- it gives me hives. Any and all. No idea what it is, but it's painful.

Hey, Jade... Not knowing if you've already done so as I don't see it mentioned...

FYI: Biggest mistake most make is to replace all the makeup and neglect giving attention to one of the most typical causes of skin issues on the face: Cleansing makeup brushes, sponges and other applicators etc. ;) VERY important to do so...

Anyway.....

I won't list all of my favorite cleansers or cosmetics. I have the largest assortment of makeup, and skin care products and am not loyal to any one brand. I do love nuetrogena.. and St Ives products.

Face: I rarely have breakouts. I tend to have dry skin.. and an oily T-zone. I have to moisturize every day. I use an astringent (i don't care what brand.. any is better than none for me.. Dollar Store brand is fine) after cleansing....... always amazed at how much makeup is left on a 'just washed' face. I have tried so many products. I can't find any for my face that moisturize as well as I need without feeling waxy, sticky or too heavy..... and without causing a heavy oily shine in the T-zone area. I'm STILL looking for the perfect facial moisterizer for me. Though, reading some of these posts are reminding me: No soap... been using it lately ALOT .. to remove makeup. Bad bad bad.. I need to get some Ponds cleanser maybe........ the stuff is old news but works good. **No Oil of Olay for me.. it burns ..owww.

Body: No issues. I exfoilate often.... and I moisturize with sesame oil.. Nuetrogena (only product i am 100% loyal to... I use it everywhere. Photographers and makeup artists have asked what my skin care habits are.... say my skin is perfect and a rare color and tone for a woman hitting 40 (one asked if i wax my entire body.. because the skin is so smooth.. I don't*... this was for the head to toe body painting session with the spiders). *I do know though, as we age... hair growth tends to drop off.. no pun intended. Less hair grow per square inch. Great news as far as the legs go.. not so for the beautiful tresses which crown out pretty little heads... win some lose some (still no pun intended).

I clean my sponges daily, and toss them after about four days. I use a special cleaner on my makeup brushes, and do that about every three days or so.

Ahh ok.. that's good.
I just use shampoo for my brushes and stuff.. cool water, rinse well etc... blot and then air dry... etc :)

My best friend gave me a gift of some gorgeous natural hair brushes, and the proper cleanser for them.

You're lucky to have a friend so thoughtful.

Mine are nonsynthetic .. natural too. If you ever run out of that 'special' cleanser.. what's good for your tresses is, likewise, good for the brushes... cost friendly too, for those pinching pennies. ;)

*nod* I use specialty shampoo.. it's ridiculously pricey.

I have skin issues. I know. The shampoo is used to treat that.

Thank you for explaining that. I do understand what you are saying and it makes perfect sense.
