OK, I've been on vacation and just heard about this. It's a damn good thing they reversed the decision to "water" the bourbon from 45% to 43%.

The SOB who made the initial decision to "cut it" should be fired and driven out of the Commonwealth of Kentucky!

Maker's Mark, Coke, Head and Shoulders, Fritos, Snickers, Tide, you just don't fuck with certain things. It never pays off.

Except when it does which is most of the time. Christ, how do you get manage to remain so fucking stupid? Practically every major food company has been doing just this for the last four or five years and probably longer.

Those that successfully "version" from established "brand" always leave the "original" in place.

Tell us all where that hasn't been the best approach?

You can't...

I know you're one of Lit's legendary morons but you realize this makes less sense than most of Jen's posts right? Do Pepsi, Coke and Dr. Pepper all of which have changed over the last twenty years and eliminated the "original" version entirely because nobody could fucking tell the difference or it was an improvement count? Since that's basically what your talking about here?

Or do you mean how WWE has been through three major changes in the last twenty years?

Or do you mean how Nintendo was a card company and well today. . .

This is without even googling by the by. This is just off the top of my head. So yes in fact I can tell you where it hasn't been the best approach. In fact the your idea is rarely the best approach it's usually wiser to move on to the future and not focus on what you were and instead focus on what you should be going forward. More companies and countries die trying to keep on as you've suggested than have failed because they didn't move on.

But you're a moron, and a troll. Thanks for entertaining me when I'm bored and cold at night though.

If you half paid attention then you would know that it's a supply issue. Would you rather have your rotgut at 43% or not at all?

I did find it humorous that weeks after their Superbowl ad touting how they hadn't changed since they first started bottling, they made this announcement.

I don't value the personal opinions that alcoholics offer very seriously.

Anyway, IF nobody can/could tell the difference with Pepsi, Coke or Dr. Pepper how was it REALLY a change? In fact, I had Dr. Pepper the other day douche and it tasted the same as it did 30 years ago, much less 20.

I guarantee you 9 out of 10 Maker's Mark drinkers would be able to tell the difference from 90 proof and something less.

That's the fucking point douche.

I did pay attention to that side of the story. In point of fact, if you drink Maker's Mark you drink Maker's Mark which is 90 proof. It's nothing less or anything more.

As for not at all, I'd side with the thousands that complained and said "nothing at all" WOULD be better.

Pappy Van Winkle is the best bourbon in the world and it's always hard to get. I'd hate for them to change a thing in order to meet true demand.

They should have simply raised the price.

They tried the same tactic the candy companies have been using for years. Costs go up?

Change the size of the bar. They could have changed the volume...

Pappy van Winkle?

Are you an alcoholic?

:D

It's actually Pappy Van Winkle's.

God strike me dead for not spelling the name of some of his best nectar correctly.

Being an alcoholic off Pappy's may well be a higher form of happiness. However, it's certainly beyond Sean's ways and means.

Actually, most of the sots I have known are beer drinkers.

I guess it keeps away the *hic/thud* longer.

Better that you stick to Magic Elixir then . . .

for those who can't handle their liquor. :D

It's a slippery slope from 90 proof to 86 proof.

Jack Daniels Black started at 90, dropped to 86 and today is 80. That's one reason it sucks. The other being it is made in a state that can't produce bourbon.

Of course, Maker's Mark and Pappy are usually consumed straight up. If you are going to mix in coke or some such shit you might as well be drinking Fleischmann's.

Then buy moonshine if proof is your measure of quality.

~or~

Use a little less coke with your ice-cubes, umbrella and fruit slice...

I'll take my stimulus straight-up, and don't put any of that pollutin' water in it.

I want to provided goods and services in a free and competitive market and not to be stimulated into playing the "Player Piano."

You haven't kept up, have you?

First of all, blame South Korea.

Last year they removed the onerous 20% tariff on imported bourbon, and now drinking bourbon is inexplicably the trendy thing to do in Asiatic countries. Go figure.

This caught bourbon makers by surprise, they've sold more bourbon than they have in decades, and resulted in *gasp* an alcohol shortage.

So they did what any self-respecting glibertarian entity would do: cheapened the product. They must've learned about adulterating hooch watching Boardwalk Empire, no?

Well, they hadn't counted on a social media firestorm ensuing.

They made exactly one week's production run with their "new and improved" formulary. Then public pressure mounted to the point where they did a "full Vettebigot", i.e. they quickly reversed course and denied they'd ever had plans to do otherwise. No foul, right?

The really kewl thing: when they announced the first formula change, there was an incredible run on the older bottles with higher alcohol. They were "keepsakes", y'know?

But now, after they've gone back to "classic" Maker's Mark, the "lite" version is now heavily sought after as a scarce "collector's item"!
