It isn’t the vaccine most adults think of when they hear the words “polio vaccine.” IPOL, sold by Sanofi , is produced by modifying the kidney cells of monkeys. These cells become immortal, like cancer, and end up in the ingredients of each vaccine dose. As FDA documents attest, IPOL was licensed based on a clinical trial with no control group and only three days of safety review after injection. That is patently insufficient to determine what effects the vaccine might have on growing children. Drugs are commonly assessed in multiyear placebo-controlled trials. The media’s outrage should be directed at the FDA, which licensed a novel vaccine after collecting so little data.

“The scope of our client’s petition was narrow. It simply asked the FDA to require a proper trial for approval of IPOL, given that federal law continues to provide Sanofi immunity to liability for injuries from IPOL. The FDA continues to assert that “deaths have occurred in temporal association after vaccination,” but a causal relationship has neither been confirmed nor ruled out.”

Even vaccines that are not 100% effective for any individual are widely proven to reduce transmission among a population.

The total numbers saved by blanket immunizations far outweighs the negative effects on society, however….

Different substances have different effects on different bodies. If you doubt this just think about how some people cannot wear certain metals as jewelry because they may have a severe reaction to it when others may not.

Many vaccines have used egg as part of their production - some people have severe egg allergies. Thermosal, containing mercury was a common ingredient in many vaccines but I believe it has now been replaced.

So even if one percent of the population had a bad reaction to a vaccine, there’s a good chance it could have a positive effect on society as a whole.

Another major issue with vaccines is how they are pushed so aggressively for newborns and small children. They are often given multiple vaccines at a time - often raising fevers as their immune systems react to the inoculation. Doctors push this because if children aren’t vaccinated right away, parents often don’t get it back around to it.

One of my kids has severe allergies to many substances. My wife researched it and found that several of the combined vaccines were available individually. She picked and chose the ones that would be less likely to produce allergic reactions and gave them to him over a period of several of his early years. We got a lot of pushback from doctors until they listened to our reasoning, after which they were usually helpful.

So yeah, I think it’s perfectly reasonable to question individual vaccinations but it’s asinine to reject them all out of hand.
