There was no renewable energy future, if there was we wouldn't have had to subsidize the entire thing forever and ever.
There is a long American history of government subsidizing new industries until they become profitable. It's how everything from railroads to the Internet got built.

The very notion is fucking laughable.
Building "green" shit that isn't really green and charging people 10x conventional prices even with subsidies didn't work out across the board.
Some things are close but we still aren't there.
Fund the R&D....but trying to prop up a bullshit market and pretending it's a success because dear leader(s) said so is just stupid.
What stem cell edge did we lose? How did that happen?

Now the money used to subsidise renewable energy can go to sustaining the coal mining industry and if there's any left over it can go towards tax breaks for all those industries that are going to come home.

They are both rotund, both have weird hair, both live in opulent luxury, both are excellent at building walls, both follow isolationist policies.

Last nights I read an eyewitness account of the CHANCELLORSVILLE battle where Union General Hooker lost to Robert E.Lee. Hooker had every advantage (twice as many soldiers) yet got whipped bad. At the tail end of the battle Hooker had one half his army fighting the other while Lee looked on laughing his ass off at the ass clown circus.

If I threw as much money at porta-shitter cleaning as we have at "green" energy it would also be a bigger employer than X, Y and Z combined.
Take the subsidies away and watch NOBODY spend a few hundred grand to buy a super polluting (production is far from green) solar setup they will have to replace every decade or so and maintaining/replacing their battery banks regularly.
Sure.
Wind seems to be the best alternative but even that isn't being fully taken advantage of because it's still not economically viable and not everyone wants their scenery dominated by the ugly things.
If we were really interested in making shit loads of cheap, efficient and green energy we'd be building nuclear reactors. But that wouldn't get (D) and homies a shit ton of mega bucks though would it??
Our "green" industry is a made up market used to throw money back at contributors and homies. Like a number of our other markets have become both R and D.
It ONLY exists because elites in politics spend big government money on it, without that the shit would vanish tomorrow.
I want them all to end. Energy, agriculture, auto manufacturers, Wall St. ALL of them need to be cut off.
It's so out of control and fucked up/corrupted at this point the super unlikely but real resolution for a lot of our problems would be to stop all this shit and get a real and sustainable plan for our future.
Smoking the great great great great great great great grand kids life earnings to buy up votes is going to be the demise of the USA as it's currently understood.
How it will change? Dunno..
Personally I hope we get back to being liberty loving capitalist free to live whatever lifestyle they want but the extreme levels of control freak coming from our pols/people I think some flavor of socialist bullshit will rise to be the primary political force in this country.
I just hope it's nationalist flavored socialism and not a variety of the currently popular race based social justice buu shit or global-communist style of fuckery that hopefully stays in the EU.
