Mail Notifications

I am recieving mail notifications from a thread. When I looked in the FAQ and went to the control to remove the thread I was not subbed to it. Can anyone help with this please as the thread is not even very interesting to any others than the participants.

control panel-edit options-Use 'Email Notification' by default?-no. that is the only other way they will send you e-mail notifications
