Why is is it that the mailbox has been unserviceable for in excess of 36 hours? It can not be a local (Literotica) problem as I'm getting a message of 'be patient' from bigmailbox!!!!

I know, it's pissing me off too. They lie as well. "It will be operational at your next login". I've tried logging in about 5 times over the last 3 days. If they know something's down, you'd think they'd do a better job of fixing it. I'm sure it doesn't include just this site.

Maybe it has to do with the virus that was passed around to different people via email. It was sent to me and man it sucks I lost so many files.

Thanks Patryn,

I don't know where you're from - go for it 'boikie':D (I hope (secretly)you're gonna ask me about this word). I see that you're experienced - love it! I initially thought I was going to get shat on again for stirring it on the BB (that's what happened last time I merely asked a question - now I'm whinging) . Seems like some of us have reason to get upset - for valid reasons that is !!!! I earlier did read that thread about the BB becoming a battlefield lately - good news to all of you - I'm an ex fighter pilot :). Anybody for a scrap - low level or at altitude :p?

Pooks.

I am having similar trouble. Gingersnap--What does the subject line or sender line look like on one of these virus emails?

Gingersnap,

Could well be a virus  , and if that's the case - good luck to us all. I just think we should have somehow been told about the problem before we got pissed off.

I see your interests include flying ;) . Hope you enjoyed my mail. Flying stays in the blood once it's there. So does a lot of other goodies - and baddies.:)

Patryn,

It is a local word from southern africa (where I reside by the way) that is used when the person you speak to, or about, did something really cool or said something that you agree with or support. It's difficult to express in words, but e.g. if a sport star of ours did well, we would say 'Well done boikie!'. It is pronounced "boy-key".

By the way, I would love to know where you 'handle' comes from as we have a bird around here called a 'patrys'??? It is a beautiful bird as well .

My handle is just a variation of my last name. Sorry to disappoint.

I answered this on another thread, (the "I Want My Mail" thread) so I'll cut and paste my answer from there:

We apologize for this - it's yet another reason that we'd like to be able to host the mail ourselves. It'd take more hardware and software than we currently have (and can afford) right now, but it'd be worth it as we'd have control over what's going on and would be able to give you answers when the system goes down. Right now, WE can't even get an answer. Argh. Thanks for your understanding, and I apologize again for the pain in the ass.

To that, I'll add that I've contacted BigMailBox repeatedly and as of Saturday 2:29 pm PST I have yet to receive an answer. I'm as furious as you are, and I deeply apologize for this.

If this is any consolation, BigMailBox is one of the largest email service providers on the Net, so there are many many other sites in the same position as us. Misery loooves company! :)

Here's a letter I just received from BigMailBox:

BigMailBox experienced technical difficulties due to our EMC2 storage
system. After repeated failures in the system, BigMailBox intentionally took
the service down in order for EMC's and BigMailBox's technicians to make
repairs and software upgrades to correct this problem. During the outage,
BigMailBox stored all incoming emails and is in the process of delivering
those emails to the appropriate users. The service will be available within
a few hours of the writing of this email.

BigMailBox staff is committed to providing quality email service and
apologize for the technical difficulties we have experienced during the past
week.

Sincerely,
Brian Douglas
Director of Operations
