Anyone ever have a maid? What was the cost? How often did the maid come to clean? Was it worth it?

PBW

Depends on a ton of things. Mine is $25 an hour and she comes usually twice a week, but I have a lot of pets.

I had one once. She came in once day every two weeks for about 4 hours and did the floors, windows, vacumed, etc.. She didn't do laundry or dishes or anything...

At the time it ran me about $40 each time but that was more than 10 years ago...

A few years back we contracted with a cleaning service to come in every um.. I think it was once a month. It was totally worth it.

The more often you have them come, the less expensive it is per visit (but obviously you're still paying more cuz they come more often). Once a month was all I needed, but it made me feel like i had TONS more free time. If I were able to do it again, I'd go for every 2 weeks, at this point.

I believe at the time, and this was roughly 5 years ago, the fee was $125 per visit. They brought in 2 to 3 people and were done in less than 2 hours every time.

You can contract for specific jobs periodically, like windows, ceiling fans, or the interior of the oven, which are not covered in the standard service.

Make sure you get recommendations from people in your area, though. It's a strange feeling to give strangers carte blanche access to your stuff.

Cleaning up for their arrival is a nuisance, but at $40 a pop, they're less expensive than a grrlfriend.

You do that too? I can't have her thinking I am messy or anything, after all! ;)

PBW, I started off with an agency, but they had so many different people coming and going that service was uneven at best. They broke things and kept raising prices frequently.

I asked the supervisor/crew leader one time if she would like to make some cash on the side. She agreed and has been with me ever since. It is a win-win situation because I cut my bills in half and she got some extra cash that she didn't have to split with the company. She works every other week.

I have a large house and don't have the time or the inclination to clean house after a hard day (or week) at work. To me, it is worth the money and saves me lots of aggravation. I don't stress over scuff marks or dusty shelves. And, best of all, she does the bathrooms!

I find too many maid services treat there employees like subhumans, which is why I don't particularly endorse them.

LOL @ sunny

If I were a member in good standing, I wouldn't do any cleaning.

I might break a nail.

a bit perverse.........

I found that I felt bad if I hadn't picked up before they got there........wait......isn't that why I hired them?...........I think I payed $65 every two weeks..............well worth it if you can afford it...........although I still feel it is a bit exploitive...........

No that's just Long Island/Miami Jews. Boston and Brooklyn Jewish women cook and clean obsessively. TRUST me. lol Remember Brighton Beach Memoirs? The mother is my mother. To a T. Just with a society flair. lol

i cleaned houses for about 4 months trying to make some extra money. it was probably one of the worst jobs i had. the pay was terrible and the work was disgusting. i wouldn't do it again.

I did a stint as a maid one summer, the pay wasn't too bad, but it was a private thang, not part of a service.

Another summer I worked in hotel service for housekeeping. That was pretty basic, but the tips worked out pretty well.

However, I've never had one, but just decided today that when I get back from NYC I'm getting one.

I can't do this all by myself.

She told a bad joke so I had her shot in the face.

I can't believe you didn't do it yourself!
