Nadya Marku
Long naturally curly dark hair (Past and present)
Dark expressive eyes (Past and present)
Slightly tan hued skin (past and present)
Romanian by blood and Birth (Past)
Romanian by blood American by birth (Present)

So long ago she was a Gypsy witch but now in this modern world her reincarnation has her as a writer wielding a power she has no idea she has and attributes its affect on her life to dumb luck on her part.

Dragged long ago from the man she loved and thrown into a well hidden dungeon tomb right under his nose to die so long ago but what will happen this time?
~~~~~~~~~~~
Her profession was writer... Her genre... whatever she felt led to write at that time... Her preferred utensils of the task... Quill pens, true antique fountain pens, and all with a a very select hand made ink she was guided to by her grandmother long ago. Her writings however seemed to always pull people into her life and she never really understood it. A murder mystery she wrote guided a charming young cop into her life and helped him solve a case from his grandfathers time. She wrote poems and she for a time found herself for a time in a lavish life with musicians recording her every word. She never put two and two together that the items she used and the ink she wrote with held their own magic. Her family a long line of "witches of the wordcraft" Her mother had kept that part of her heritage from her and with a great love for her daughter her grandmother had
gone along with keeping her magical ancestry from her. All she knew with any remote certainty was that some of her family was from Romania. It was not till a letter arrived by hand delivery by a young man dressed in a tunic style shirt and leather pants and boots. On his chest was a symbol she had seen in dreams since she was a child and from time to time hid in the cover art of her books. The letter simply said...
Its time you learned the truth of your blood. Sink deep into your soul and write what truly whispers from your dreams and your heart. When you are ready you will know...
Truth be known she had always wanted to write a romantic novel... with exotic locations... love transcending the centuries and drawing two souls together who were so wrongly parted with betrayal murder and greed. Once her agent released to the world that she was finally going to be writing a Romantic novel a second letter came to her delivered by the same young man. This time it was a letter for her to take with her to an ancient castle long forgotten by the world in the old country where there would be no disturbance to her writing and another clue to her families heritage that had been kept from her by the misguided love of family.
Once arriving there she found a marvelous staff of a butler several maids and a grounds keeper stable man... a few guards who have protected the castle and grounds for generations and a small but highly impressive cooking staff. Treated like royalty by them she wandered her "new home" for a few days gaining inspiration with every turn and portrait and tapestry.
She finally settled in to writing and had managed with east to knock out several chapters. Working late into the night one night she could not seem to stop her mind and soul from the words flowing forth from them. Finally in the wee hours of the morning with the full moon shining in on her through the window her quill pen fell from her hands as she sank into a deep sleep in the ancient chaise lounge she had been curled up on.
With the dawn she awoke and found herself looking eye to eye with a stunning image.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v621/NightPoet/WallPapers/a9231a37.jpg
He looked to her with a smile his long dark brown hair and deep haunting eyes and ancient looking opened tunic top and pants.
Her eyes could not look away from him as she felt a strange pull deep in her heart towards him.
Who... Who are you and how did you... She bit her lip a little as she could not believe how he looked like the "hero" of the novel she was writing... the picture in her mind here in flesh and blood before her... Was she dreaming?
No dream Ma'am the butler spoke. Tis the power of your blood and your chosen craft... I will see to the young mans accommodation until Madam understands more about what has happened and what she has done and can do. There is much you both will need to understand of your past together... this was not the expected result... but it was the preferred one... With that the Butler turned and on silent steps walked from the room leaving the long lost lovers to stare at each other still not understanding what had happened or how the other one could be there before them.
Alexandru Dragomir had to be dreaming. The last thing he had remembered was...water...endless water. Now, he was lying on a soft bed staring at an angel. His angel. He'd recognize that beauty anywhere. Those dark eyes, that soft hair, her tanned skin. This was her!
He tried to rise, but his body felt weak and his muscles were unsteady. That other man, a butler he guessed, had left them, and his angel just sat there, staring at him, speaking in a strange tongue he didn't understand.
"Dragostea!" he called out. "Visez? Chiar este tine?" He finally managed to rise up onto his feet, wobbling uneasily. His own dark eyes darted around the room.
I know these walls. he thought. Truly, this is where I sleep. Yet, it seems so strange, so different.
Turning around, he tried to find something familiar, something he recognized. Nothing was as it should be. It couldn't have been that long, they wouldn't have changed everything so quickly.
"Ce sa intampla?" he pleaded, grabbing onto his lover's shoulders. "Cazul în care sunt eu? Ce intamplat? Răspunde-mi, iubita!"
Darkness overtook him, and he fell to his knees.
"Nadya..." he whispered, before he collapsed.
She blinked... she roughly understood part of the second time he spoke.
"What's going on? Where am I? What's happened?
Was all she understood and tried to answer him but her talent with the old family language was very limited.
This is the Castle Dragomir It was suggested I come here to write in peace and quiet... as for what happened I... I don't know.
She heard him call her name the name her grandmother put her foot down on. The name to honor an ancient family ancestor. This was all a little too weird for her as she quickly called for the butler to return and tend to him while she took a walk to clear her mind and make sense of it all as if she could.
Alexandru rode through the forest on his Father's land. He was seeking a rare flower, in the hopes of wooing the fair Anya. His brothers had told him it grew somewhere by the river, but he'd be up and down all day with no success. He'd thought to try going deeper in, to see if maybe it was just further inward.
He followed upstream, watching the water dance on the riverbed. As he navigated his horse carefully thru the underbrush, he spotted it! There was his flower. A moon flower, he'd heard it called. It was said that the flower changed with the moon, waxing and waning to it's namesake's dance.
There was only one problem. It rested on top of a waterfall.
Alex dismounted, knowing the horse couldn't help him here. He spotted a likely path that he might be able to climb, and began his journey. He was only halfway up when he heard a splash below him. He looked down at the base of the waterfall.
The waterfall tumbled down into a vast lake of crystal clear water. There, on the shore, he saw her.
A gypsy girl.
Her dress was hanging on a tree limb. Her body glistened as she dove into the water, her raven hair flying like wings behind her. Alex just clung to the rockface, entranced as this exotic beauty danced under the rippling lake.
How long he watched her is a matter of some debate. Needless to say, he was so engrossed as he leaned in for a closer look, that he didn't notice his grip slipping. Not, at least, until he found himself diving into the water himself.
Alex awoke with a gasp, still feeling the cool water as it enveloped him. He looked around, trying to remember where he was.
He was lying in bed, the sheets twisted up around him. It was his eldest brother's room. Or was, before everything changed. He hung his head in his hands, trying to figure out what was going on.
Someone knocked at the door.
An old woman bringing food the one who ruled the kitchen and seemed to mother everyone. She carefully held a small tray of food as she stood there speaking in his native language.
Young prince... you should eat... there is food here... Open the door please.
She nodded to the Butler as he walked past her. They both were the eldest here and the only two that knew that Nadya's grandmother knew this would happen and was behind her coming here to write. The other knew that things would change due to ancient magics. They all hoped that the young lovers now reunited in some form would be able to find at least the bones of Nadya's former body and offer the lost one a proper burial and peace at last for everyone.
He heard the old woman speaking in his father's tongue, and he breathed a sigh of relief. He rose from his bed, and shakily made his way to the door. It wasn't until he opened it that he realized he was wearing nothing but his shirt, just long enough to cover his modesty. He blushed at the old woman, as he took the food from her and thanked her.
"Please," he said in Romanian. "What has happened? Why is everything so different from what I know?"
The old woman smiled and moved to a chair to sit down. Ancient eyes looked into his assured spoke.
The magics of old have been reborn with our Nadya. She does not understand yet that her power is in words. She writes of you and her but she does not understand why nor that she is your Nadya reborn and her magical brought you here through time to her once more. You have been brought across centuries back to you Nadya only she does not yet remember. I will tell you both more in time but there is reason you two are together like this here and now.
Smiling she pat his shoulder and went back to her kitchen and her duties.
As the woman left, Alex was left agape.
Nadya? Magics? Reborn? Time? What in the world?
All his questions were put on hold as his stomach grumbled, reminding him of the food on his plate. Deciding that it was no use worrying on an empty stomach, he feasted greatly on his meal.
With his stomach full, and strength returning to his tired limbs, he walked over to the window, to admire the view and see how much the land had changed.
To his surprise, there wasn't much difference. The walls and stones were older, and the old forest seemed a little smaller than he remembered, but it was still his home.
As he looked down from his window, he saw a most remarkable machine. It rode on four black wheels, and appeared to be made of metal. The shocking thing was that it wasn't pulled by a horse. It gave a great roar as it drove into the courtyard.
How far have I come? he wondered.
But wondering was put aside, as he spied the garden, and the most beautiful flower walking along it's path. There was his Nadya.
Or, at least, A Nadya.
This will take some getting used to.
Nadya tried to understand it. Trying to piece together all the old woman told her when she brought her food out to the garden. Sighing she could not understand that her simply writing a novel about love would bring the man she thought was just a creation of her mind into this time and place. She had known him before according to the old lady. That there were many things that would have to be revealed in time as the young prince grew more accustomed to this time period.
How could this happen was everything she had written been the actual history of this prince and her ancestor? She had to know. Hurrying back to the room that had felt most comfortable to her when she arrived here to get her manuscript to read it to see if she could glean any answers from that.
Alex walked up and down the hallways. Everywhere he went, he was greeted by servants of the castle. He wanted to learn everything he could about this new time period.
He learned that the vehicle he'd seen was called an "automobile". He learned that they used something called "electricity" to power the lights. Four hours in his new time, and he'd learned so much.
But there was one thing he wanted to learn more than anything.
He hesitantly approached his old quarters, now the room of the new Mistress of the Castle, his love reborn.
The door was ajar. He peeked inside and saw Nadya reading through a book. If the old woman was to be believed, that book was what had brought him here.
He leaned against the doorjamb, in no hurry to disturb her. He merely observed as she flipped through the pages, occasionally push the hair out of her eyes and behind her ears.
So much like his Nadya, from when he came from.
He coughed to announce his presence, and, very slowly, talked to her.
"You know, you are so much like her," he said in Romanian. "So beautiful."
She could sort of piece together what he said and sighed wishing she could talk more to him she wanted to ask him to tell her about the Nadya from his time or to have him read what she had written about Nadya to see if she had missed anything.
She smiled to him then seeing one of the other maids walk by she called her in asking her to be their interpreter.
I want to know what his Nadya... my ancestor was like to see if what I have in the book is right... to see what he can add to the blanks in the book about her or him or his family and brother or her people... what happened to her does he know how could we find out this place still has everything from his family long before he was born... stored in various rooms and all over the place.
The woman translated to him all her questions and curiosity. She knew the old legends and stories but with the young prince here it was not her place to tell them incase time had caused them to grow beyond their reality.
Alex nodded as the serving woman asked Nadya's questions. But, all the while, he just stared into her eyes.
"There is...so much to tell," he answered. "I'm not sure where to even begin."
He glanced at the book she was writing. "And, given your powers, I'm a little worried. What if I say something wrong? What would happen if I told you a lie? Would it change how things were?" A glint came to his eye. He took an eager step forward. "Could you change the past? Can you fix it?"
She shook her head. She barely understood what she hack done to bring him here much less changing any past or anything like that.
Not that I know of but I really don't understand how I apparently brought you here.
Alexandru hung his head, and took a seat, disappointed.
"Then," he began, slowly. "Maybe it would be best to wait. These powers of yours are strange, and my people have a saying: 'Be careful of that which you do not understand.'"
He smiled at her, a warm smile. "I have a feeling that, if we start to understand each other, then we will understand what has happened, and understand about us." He grimaced. "Or, at least, about me and my Nadya."
Am I really that much like my ancestor Nadya?
She was curious and a little worried about the answer. It had never set well with her nor with her mother that she held the appearance of someone long lost and long dead. She asked the maid to translate the story that she had written so far if he wished to hear it. Then balling up on the chaise lounge again she simply began talking. The maid unsure just began to translate for now.
When I arrived here the old woman told me to wander this place till I found what felt like home and that would be my room. This room that we sit in now felt comfortable warm and safe unlike any room in this place especially those closest to the center walls. There is something strange about those walls... do you know what it is? Its like they are a complete circle in the center of the castle which would match that tall spire but from old drawings there is nothing there as if perhaps solid stone support in a large circle.
He looked around the room as the translator finished. "Yes," he whispered, almost to himself. "I can understand why you'd like this room. You always did like it."
Alex coughed, then shrugged at the question. "Don't know much about the tower, to be honest. It was bit long before my father's time. I know that my father knew about it, and I think he shared it with my eldest brother, his heir."
His eyes took a sad tone. "Father never did approve of me, you see. Said I was too much like my mother. Not enough Dragomir backbone, he'd say."
He returned his gaze to Nadya. "I'm eager to see what you've written. It'll be interesting how well you remember how things were." He averted his eyes, shyly. "Well, not so much remember."
She handed the manuscript to the maid to translate. She listened intently to the ancient tongues as the maid read aloud talking about Nadya dancing around the fires and the flames seeming to mimic her every move as she did... Of meeting with Alexandru the the lost clearing or in the depths of the trees. Or how she surprised him being able to climb down from the windows of his chambers when there were too many people in the hall to leave that way.
She had written bits and pieces but had tried to put them in order or what felt like the correct order. Realizing what the maid was getting close to reading she stopped her biting her lip not wanting to make him relive his Nadya being taken from him over again so soon.
Perhaps the rest later I am sure Alexandru is tired of listening.
To be honest, Alexandru was in his own little world.
While the maid was translating the bits and pieces, his memory was rewinding the clock for him. It was so strange how the book was told from Nadya's-his Nadya's-perspective, yet it still triggered his own memories.
He hit the water with a loud splash. He was lucky to have survived, much less with only bruises to his pride.
He surfaced from the water, and he saw her. The gypsy girl. She was covering herself for modesty's sake, but her eyes were burning fury.
Alex gulped. Looking around, he figured he had nothing to lose.
"Ever just fancied a swim for no reason and then, whoosh, there you are int he water?" he said with his most charming smile.
For a second, the world hung suspended before him, as he looked deep into those furious, beautiful eyes. Then, as if the world started breathing again, the gypsy girl laughed.
"Yes, I have indeed," she said, her voice ringing with music. "But, usually I take my clothes off, and I don't go diving from on top of a cliff."
Alex just shrugged with a self-depreciating grin. "Hey, when you gotta swim, you gotta swim."
He snapped back to reality. Kalina was just talking about how he was probably tired from the story.
"No, no, my apologies," he said, hurriedly. He blushed. "You did such a good job, i was deep in memory before I knew it. It's interesting to hear your own memories as told by someone else. My first meeting with Nadya, for example. You make me sound like some sort of handsome stranger, but, really, I was a bumbling oaf who fell off a cliff while she was bathing." He laughed, a sound of release.
SO everything I have written thus far is just how it all happened?
She waited for the maid to ask him in a way fearing the the next segment that the maid read would cause horrible memories as it brought out so much fear in herself as well. The nightmare that seemed to plague her for as long as she could remember but now that she was writing it seemed a main part of this novel that may well not be a novel.
She thought about what she had written sinking deep into her own thoughts about the nightmarish part.
She had been found near the castle by Lord Dragomir. Standing there he roared for his son to be brought to him. Guards ran quickly to bring Alexandru to his father so not to incur any wrath on themselves. He stood there hand sealed around the throat of the young gypsy girl holding her firmly in place as she fought and struggled.
The guards walked out with Alexandru who's face quickly transformed from rage to terror seeing Nadya in his fathers grasp. He began to plead with his father who simply roared for silence. Then began to rail and yell at his young son for associating with such a mongrel and how he would pay for it even though the look in his father and brothers eyes when they looked to her was far from disdain or hate.
Once he had said his peace he d=ordered the soldiers near his son to hold him in place as he then tossed Nadya to the captain of the guards and told him to bring her with them so that she may pay for ever attempting to ensnare even his most worthless of sons. The massive soldier walking with Lord Dragomir simply dragged her along by the arm as she reached towards Alexandru sobbing and calling to him terrified. Alexandru yelling to his father the guards and calling to her as well.
She remembered little after that other than flashes of what she suspected were her being beaten or tortured then black... simply fear and black.
Alex nodded. "Yes, though there are some things that were different."
He stopped the maid from continuing on, and asked her hand her the page about when he visited the gypsy camp later that night.
"Like, this part here," he said in Romanian, hoping that his memory of the translation could help him pinpoint what was off about it. "I distinctly remember something about this. When I came to the camp after meeting her, I wasn't welcomed by the gathering, I was confronted! Apparently, her uncle didn't like the idea of a lordling mingling with them, said it was dangerous."
He hung his head. "Turned out he was right." He shook his head with a smile. "Before I was allowed to join the camp for their meal, I had to prove that I belonged there. Can you believe that?"
What I write at just the "flashes" I get in my mind not always complete scenes just... as if I am trying to remember them but...
Looking at the part he was talking about she closed her eyes. something was trying to slither into her mind.
She had words with her father about his brothers actions and him letting him treat a guest like that when she had brought him there herself.
Her eyes open shaking her head she looked to him and quickly reached for the pages and began writing again now writing about the fight she almost feels like she herself had not the young woman in her book but she knew it was the young woman not her... or was it both of them.
Alex followed where the gypsy girl led. In the short time, she knew her name was Nadya, and that she was part of a wandering band of Gypsies that had chosen to stay in his father's forest. Alex knew that if his father ever found out, he'd be furious, but for now, the beauty of the woman before her had his heart and mind ensnared.
They broke through the woods into a clearing. Gypsy wagons were circled around the whole clearing, and a bonfire was being prepared for the night.
So much of these mysterious people had been lost. Stories of the gypsies, of the Romani, were varied, everything from kind, benevolent hosts, to greedy, murderous thieves. For Alex, this was an opportunity to see which of the stories were true.
As they entered the camp, every single one of the band stopped what they were doing and stared at him. The stares made him uncomfortable, and he hoped Nadya would be able to assuage them.
Nadya watched the young man her powers had clearly brought here from all she had been told and listened as he filled in one of the blanks for her. To save time the maid simply wrote in English what the young prince said in Romanian on a separate sheet of paper for Nadya. Nadya's eyes locked on his eyes and face all the expressions and emotion there. She could see how her ancestor had fallen for this young man.
"What is this man doing here, Nadya?" a tall gypsy with a short black beard asked. "Don't you know who this is?"
"His name is Alexandru Dragomir, youngest son of the nearby lord," Nadya said, defiantly. "And he is here to enjoy our hospitality"
That stopped the gypsy in his tracks. "If his father knew he was here..."
"He won't," Alex said. "I swear myself to secrecy before all of you here." He grimaced. "Besides, my father doesn't care whether I live or die."
Another gypsy, bigger, stronger, strode into the fray. "Nadya, you do not think!" he looked at Alex. "And you, boy, i do not trust. If you're going to be our guest, it'll take more than the word of a lordling to satisfy me."
Alex spread his arms wide. "Give me a challenge, and I shall meet it!"
The first gypsy laid a hand on the bigger man. "Peace, brother," he said, then turned to Alex. "It is customary for a guest to bring new learning to our people. My daughter, for whatever reason, has brought you to us. So, as our guest, you must tell us a story."
Alex paused. "A story?"
"That's right," the leader said.
Alex rubbed the back of his neck as he paced, trying to come up with a suitable story. Finally, he smiled, as a perfect story came to mind.
"Three brothers went hunting in these woods," he began. "The first thought to tackle a mighty boar that was rumored to be in the area. The second wanted to hunt a bear who had been terrorizing the locals. Finally, the third simply wanted to be with his brothers.
"The two elder brothers despised the youngest, and bade him wait up in a tree, telling him to spot their prey for them. All they wanted was him to no longer be underfoot, but the boy took his brothers' words seriously.
"For hours, he waited up in the tree, keeping eye out for boar and bear. But he was not idle. He'd set up a series of traps around the tree, in the hopes to catch the prize and thus impress his brothers.
Finally, he heard a great clattering in the woods. Keeping as silent as possible, he waited for his snares to catch his quarry."
Alex laughed. "However, instead of a boar or a bear, his brothers had managed to fall right into the traps he had set for their prey."
The gypsy leader smirked. "And what wisdom would these three brothers teach us?"
Alex smiled. "Beware of little boys in trees."
The leader laughed while his brother's scowl relaxed. With that, he was welcomed into the gathering, and the band came around to greet him.
Throughout his story, Nadya just smiled at him, and watched him be accepted by her people.
Alex stopped his storytelling. "Forgive me," he said. "It is late, and I'm still not fully recovered from this...time traveling that has occurred." He rose from his seat, and gave his host a bow. "Good night, sweet Nadya." And made to leave for his quarters.
