I'm in the market for a Dig Camera now that I can finally start to aford one and I was interested in knowing what kind you use? I don't want something that is extreme in price, I'm hoping to keep it under $400.00 if possible. I want one that will take good quality pictures, and that has a timer. When I was still in high school, I took photography and had fun coming up with poses for my black and white pictures, so I'm hoping to get a Dig Camera that can give me the same type of freedom I had back then in creativity and quality.

Any suggestions from everyone is appreciated :)

Thanks!

Mistress darling... I've got a Sony mavice, it was top of the line when i bought it, but it's held up for almost 3 years now, and over 4000 pics. You see the quality of my pics, when you see my av's. It does have a timer, and one of it's best features, is that it uses floppies to store the pics on, which makes it compatible with a Mac or PC. roughly 20 pics per disk.

dig cam

Miss,

i would strongly recommend the olympus camedia C-3000. i got mine recently, and i LOVE it.
having gotten my degree (long ago) in photography, i like the "traditional" functionality it has similar to the 35mm. it has all the standard stuff you'll find in most digi cams today, but with the features of the 35mm. like... zoom, selectable film speed, aperture or shutter priority, etc. you can, of course, do b/w or sepia at the touch of a button. it's 3.4 meg/pixel which is fine.
i paid ~$600 several months ago. should be less today, if you can still find one. i know that's a little more than you wanted to spend, but it's worth it. btw, don't get the newer c-4000 (@ $800), the difference isn't worth the price increase.
i hope this helps.

Digi cam?

Hiya Mistress:

For what it's worth, if creativity and quality are your primary concerns I would use a good 35mm. I doub't you will be able to find a digital camera in that price range that will produce the same quality and allow the versatility to be as creative as you were shooting b/w film.

However, there are digicams out there that are priced at around $40-50 that are great for use on the internet as well as acceptable 3x5 prints for home use. Some have flash and others don't, and some have lcd screens while others use a viewfinder, etc ... At the price range you mentioned you should expect good quality prints from good quality at 5x7 to marginal quality 8x10 and superb internet quality with either.

Remember when you shot the b/w film you were concerned with film grain. It's still the same with film. The faster the film (bigger the number the faster) the grainier the film. Same goes for digital except it's called pixel's and the higher the number the better. The more pixels per linear inch the smaller the pixel and thus the sharper the image!

The timer is a kink in the rope though. It seems the camera companies have forgot that item on several upper end models and damn near all the lower priced ones. Depending on the camera you may be able to jury rig a remote control.

Hey I just had a brainstorm. How about looking at a digital video camera and just shoot digital video. They come with cords to plug straight into your computer and you can capture any frame you want with the software that comes with them. (Adobe photoshop or similar)

I am starting to ramble!

All in all it comes down to shop for the features you want and find the brands that fit the list and stay within your budget.

I shoot some digital but not often. Almost everything I shoot is with my Nikons. I love 35mm b/w and there are no digitals out the that can compete, yet!

best to ya

OK, that was freaky!

Look at the thread, see Lobito's arse. Look again, see wolves getting action! Had to check my eyes a second, lol!!

Well, I can say Aaron and I both use the same cam, the Canon G1. Looks like online it's about $475 from the review page, not including shipping. When I was looking around, I checked out LOTS of cameras. Many have timers, but very few have remotes!

You should be able to find a decent 3+mpixel camera for $400 or less now. Most use the flashcards, you can get several different sizes. I know my 64mg one will take almost 200 pix when I have my size setting to medium!

The reviewpage InMiami gave was where I did all my research, it's a great site! Privy, I think my Canon does great shots. Honestly, it takes as good as pics as my manual old Pentax does, perhaps with the exception of some really closeup ones. Many digcams now have settings like 35mm manuals as well! Tons and tons of different options out there, you should be able to find exactly what you want at a reasonable price with fairly minor research :)

Good luck and happy hunting!
Mae

BEST DEAL!!!!!

Myst-
You crazy thang you....thought I forgot about ya, huh?!!!!
ANYWAYS hun, My KODAK DX3500 ONLY costs $274 total when i got it at STAPLES over this past summer, its now around $230. Quality is not a question, because it's got a great 2.2 mega pixal resolution and holds 50 "good" quality pics and like 30 when set to "best", and you can mix & match with some being "best" and some being "good". Its also got a normal 3X zoom. and comes with an adapter to plug into your TV.

As for everyone else out there with digi's:
My advice on batteries: RECHARGABLE Ni-Mh(nickle-metal hydride) ones are the best! No kidding, i was told only to use the Ni-Mhs' in my digi and I was like "Whatever, its just to get you to pay more money on expensive batteries!"...so i popped in a BRAND NEW pair of regular alkalikes' and no shitting you guys, they only lasted 20 seconds before my digi shut off and the bat light was red!!!!!
BTW-SHIT SHACK(radio shack) has a good Store brand charger that comes with like 4 batteries.
;-)

Opps, almost forgot: It has an 8MB internal memory and can take memory cards and has a tri-pod hole in the bottom and can connect to either a mac or pc with a USB cable that comes with it.

Um, I'm Myst.... she's Mistress. I don't know WHO you are, but someone told me you were confusing the two. Mistress is much prettier than I, so don't confuse us again.

dear myst

I'm stepping out of line a bit, using this page to talk to you, but if that is a pic of you on your av, MYST, you are nothing short of purrrrfect.

just my two cents;)

Bah! You know better then to say shit like that Myst! ;)

:p

Thank you everyone for the info, I'll see what I can get. Unfortunately ordering online like I normally do isn't an option with this. I have to depend on layaway at the moment....

Thank you so much :)

a third

A third endorsement for the newest Kodak. I have two older ones (DC 4800 and DC 3400) and they are super! Anything from 2 megapixels and up will satisfy all but the most demanding photographer - and I defy anyone to tell the difference from 35mm and my DC4800 shots printed on photo paper. Kodak software is really friendly and now they have a gizmo that allows you to download by plugging into a 'shoe' and charge at the same time.

MYST....

MYST-
Sorry there hun, i DID confuse you both, but not in beauty as you are BOTH VERY and equally sexually attractive. SO it was only in spelling the names.

CANON G1

Take a look at it, its a great camera. With the G2 out, the price is even lower now.

Peruse the review sites, test drive them at local stores. Buy it online from some state that will not charge you sales tax. I bought mine when it was top of the line for $700, and it retailed locally for $999 + tax.

a good site might be ebuyweb.com

I just got a sony DVD for about $60 less then the local retailers......

I do like the G1, it functions just like a quality SLR, my Canon hasn't left its case in 6 months now- eek!

Hope you find what you want.
