First, if you know me from here - you know - I suck at this stuff, however...

I recently renewed my McAfee (just because my Dell came with and and what the hell) - the most updated version - newer than the version I bought the puter with.

So of course (to me) it's way different. Examply: no place to retrieve 'wanted' e-mails that may have been tagged as spam - can't find a spam tank at all.

But it gets worse...

Because I'm an old fart, and I didn't feel like paying the $ to get up to date - I maintain my Outlook '97 - which is what I do all my home e-mail from.

So after I renewed to the newest version of McAfee - I CAN'T 'SEND OR RECEIVE' e-mail from my Outlook '97 - UNLESS - the address was on the 'Friends List' from the prior version.

Folks (like you) have told me - 'it's the Parental Control - clicked 'enabled' in the new McAfee version. And for sure - the Parental Control is 'enabled.'

BUT! I CAN'T FIND ANY PLACE TO DISABLE IT - NO WHERE - NO HOW.

I have also delved into the Outlook side of things and have not found anything there that may be causing this.

Yes I know - everyone says GO NORTON! But I thought I'd give you guys a shot at this before I either go for McAfee Help at $60 a pop, or dump McAfee for Norton (something I am not familiar with at all) for more money as well.

So... if you can... please help and thank you much.

Me - Sparky.

Thanks Duvdevan, but...

Went there - took me an hour to 'join' that membership (yes I suck) - had no idea where to post my problem - so posted in 'test post' area - got bumped - got no answers.

Is this all a scam? Or do I really need an IQ of 120+ to figure this shit out?

Sparky.

PS - if you look at - read - check out that board???

Is it not obvious that tons of people are having problems with McAfee?

I mean, if you figure it takes some level of puter sophistication - JUST TO POST THERE - and then logically discount all those many who don't dare...

Then you must conclude that McAfee is full of bugs, and therefore relatively unsecure, hard to use, hard to modify - and a total scamful pain in the ass...

No?

Sparky.

Why?

Can't they get this shit down - at least like a multi-line phone system?

Why?

Sparky.

There are different security levels, some are extreme (like only allowing emails from your friends list) you need to find that and undo it.

I can't remember where it is because it's been 2 years since I used it last.

McAfee has always been better than Norton, but I haven't tried the newest Norton.

The fact you're worried about security but still using outlook97, is quite amusing.

I'm actually not worried about security...

"THEY" just tell me I should be.

And I have no idea if 'they' are right(?), or not (?) - or simply continuing to prey upon my fears (fed by them) and 'sell me more stuff.'

I wouldn't have a clue as to the security or not of Outlook '97. I mean, who 'normal' would?

I simply am used to 'the look' of it - the tool bar - hell(!) it took me years to learn it. I don't relish the idea of learning an whole new system - any paying out the ass for it as well.

I mean, does that make any sense at all.

And - quite the contrary - by far and a way - Norton is advised over McAfee. In fact you are the first to recommend McAffe at all. All have told me to leave it alone.

So there you have it - respond away.

Sparky.

I have not had a bit of problems with Mcaffee.
Just go to their HELP page and click on the choice of speaking on-line to a tec, they will walk you through it in a one on one chat window. Takes awhile but they can answer your questions and fix most problems.

Ditto, McAfee works great for me, no problems. But Norton didn't work for our other computer, downloaded Norton Internet Security and it would not launch at all. Worked on if for four hours with no success, requested my refund, and went with McAfee, had it up and running in fifteen minutes.

As if you would pay for antivirus programs =\

I use NOD32 and a 16million day crack for it.

AVG is excellent - and free. I've used it for some time and never had a virus infect my PC. I'm sure Mcafee is good, but paying a yearly subscription fee is a bit much.
