Is it immediately restarting, or just coming on at "random" times?
If it's coming on at random times, Win ME probably reset your power management settings to Wake Up on modem activity, mouse activity, or keyboard activity.
I'd start with double checking the power managment scheme to make sure everything there is set the way you want it in either case.
Shadowsong22, your link is for fixing the before configuration -- ie Win 98SE. Does it solve the same problem for Win ME? Especially since the problem didn't exist with Win 98 SE?

the answer is sometimes a simple solution , butWeird Harold said:
I'm not sure what Win ME's shutdown menu looks like, 'cause I don't use it that often. However, win 98 SE's shutdown menu (see attachement) has a radio button to choose to do exactly what your system is doing. ("Restart") Whichever option was last chosen is the default for the NEXT time you shutdown.
So, dumb question of the day -- Do you have it set to restart instead of shutdown, Standby, or restart in DOS mode?

no i didnt do a full reinstall . would you reccomend doing a boot up disk and then format my h.d and start from scratch?mcveigh said:Hi i'm new here and this is my first post.
1) windows ME is probably the most hated MS operating system ever, so you may hear a lot of people telling you to upgrade. (personally I reccomend windows 2000, and XP once service pack 1 has come out)
anyways my queastion is, when you say you deleted ME did you do a full reinstall? formatting you HD or not?
also check your bios settings, under power settings there may be an option to automatically restart after a power loss, make sure that is not selected.
Let us know what happens.
good luck!
