The Freedom League, the primer team of costumed super-heroes that have long held the top position as the best-of-the-best for decades. The modern incarnation of the Freedom League came to being in the aftermath of the Terminius Invasion of 2002 that ended with the death of the Centurion at the hands of Lord Omega, and also led to the repeal of the Moore Act and the collapse of the corrupt Moore Administration and the landside victory that brought in Micheal Cameron O'Connor JR into office as the new Mayor... The newly elected Mayor O'Connor and other reformers who took control of the City Council would shape the O'Connor Administration that championed what became known in the local news media as Operation: CLEAN SWEEP. Which was in practice the complete purging of any and every official or employee that had any kind of a hint of corruption or abuse of their power and authority.

Mayor Michael O'Connor JR brought change and a sense of renewal to Freedom City in 2002, his popularity rose to an all time high of nearly 95% approval ratings during his first term as Mayor... which is now at an all time low of barely 51.3% that had allowed him to hold onto his office in the last election cycle. Some felt that his holding onto office had something to do with the Freedom League choosing to focus more on global threats instead of dealing with threats that just focused on Freedom City and the surrounding region, and the majority of the people of Freedom City felt abandoned by this decision. And that Mayor O'Connor who brought the reforms and changes that gave the city back to its citizens from those whom would use and abuse the average person.

Most of the citizens of Freedom City fear that the Freedom League's criminal rivals will take advantage of and exploit the League's new priorities... and the Crime League chose to do just that. To this end, they hired several smaller groups of costumed criminals to distract the Freedom League... allowing the Crime League to strike the defenders of Freedom when they least expected it, catching them completely unaware with a fast and brutal strike from a vector that they just were not expecting.

The original Freedom League Headquarters was a originally turn of the century mansion that had been owned by the Beaumont family in downtown Freedom City. During the late-1930s to the mid-1950s it had served as a headquarters for the Liberty League, the first organized team of costumed heroic operatives in the world... that Fletcher Beaumont SR offered it to the new Freedom League as their headquarters.

But sadly, the mansion was destroyed during the Terminus Invasion. Daedalus designed a new headquarters for the team, and he built using incredibly advanced materials and construction techniques the master inventor developed over the many centuries of his long life, and that were paid for by The original Freedom League Headquarters was a originally turn of the century mansion that had been owned by the Beaumont family in downtown Freedom City. But sadly, the mansion was destroyed during the Terminus Invasion. It was said that the Freedom League's resident inventor, Daedalus was the one who designed a new headquarters for the team, having built it using the incredibly advanced materials and construction techniques the master inventor is said to have developed over the "centuries" and paid for by Daedalus' own considerable fortune with the work carried out by Taitale Industries. This new headquarters was dubbed "Freedom Hall."

Freedom Hall consists of four aboveground levels and two underground levels. Only the layout of the ground floor of the headquarters (which is largely open to the public) is well known. And while the remaining layout of the building has been kept relatively secret as a security measure, but sadly... it just was not enough. The Crime League sprang their trap, catching their adversaries completely by surprise.

The ground floor of Freedom Hall features the Freedom League's public facilities. It is largely taken up by a lobby and reception area open to the public and “staffed” around the clock by a robot receptionist named "Cynthia." Although artificially intelligent, Cynthia is not truly sentient, but she is lifelike enough to fool casual visitors into believing she is a real, living person. The first level of Freedom Hall also features a public conference room and the League’s trophy room and museum, featuring displays of their cases and other items dating back to the original League. Three elevators take passengers to the other floors of the headquarters, they are keyed to operate only for members of the Freedom League or their designated guests.

But before the Crime League had launched their plan to lay the Freedom League low, the members of the Freedom League felt horrible that the Citizens of Freedom City felt that they had been abandoned by their decision to focus on global threats... and released a statement to the press about their decision and how grateful they were to all of the costumed adventurers that had stepped up to provide support in keeping the people of Freedom City Safe and Sound. But privately, they put out feelers through the costumed community for any possible candidates who could become a new locally based team to keep their hometown safe.

OOC: This is to set-up the PCs to start arriving at Freedom Hall, answering the call for possible candidates that could be recruited to organize a new team of local heroes, who'll get their initial start up funding from the Freedom League themselves! Yes, you're reading that right... they are willing to handle the redtape to get a new team established in Freedom City!

Jason was speeding downtown hot on the trail of Gunslinger again. The self styled Cowboy of Freedom City had struck a diamond exchange and made off with a cool couple of million dollars worth of perfectly cut diamonds. It was just luck that he had happened to be passing on his courier job and spotted the cops and noticed the telltale laser strikes of Gunslingers twin pistols.

Using his speed he had quickly found where he had raced off on his custom built motor bike and now he was tracking him by his scent. his bikes exhaust had a peculiar odor he was able to track and he was getting closer by the second.

Two seconds later and 100 miles out of town he found it parked next to an old warehouse. He had run slowly so he had been able to track the scent but now he would be able to use his full speed. Of course Gunslinger was one of the few criminals he had to be careful of. He had amazing reflexes and his weapons shot lasers that traveled at the speed of light, a feat he wasn't able to accomplish yet. Of course that was why he had designed his suit to minimize damage from weapons like them but still it was better not to be hit by them.

Time to try that new trick he was learning about. Strategy. Looking around he spotted some old rope and smiled. Grabbing it he first took apart the bike at super speed leaving it just a pile of parts then vibrated through the wall emerging into a darkened corner. The warehouse was just a big empty space with a single office that was currently lit up with Gunslinger inside talking to someone on the phone. The door was wide open and he appeared very agitated.

Jason smiled. This was going to be easy a quick speed through the door, wrap him up in the rope and speed him back to town and leave him on the door step with the loot on the nearest precinct. He was about to spring into action when he thought about it. No it was too easy. He had fought Gun 5 times now so maybe he was expecting him. Why leave the door open like that? It wasn't like him. Okay change of plan vibrate his arm through the wall, create a small hurricane blast, knock him unconscious, stroll in and tie him up, then deliver him to the police.

It took him 1 second to carry out the first part of his plan and when he got to the door he was pleased he did. Across the bottom of it at ankle height was strung a monofiliment wire that would have sliced through even his armor at the speed he would have been traveling and taken his foot with it. If he had been able to avoid that or if he had come through the walls the ground was littered with small ball bearings that would have seen him careen out of control.

It was a simple matter to kick them out of the way and quickly tie him up then make his way out after retrieving the diamonds and then zoom back to town leaving him at the first precinct he came to. He smiled as he then sped to make his delivery. He still had 1 minute left. Plenty of time.

The next day he deliberated the rumors he had heard. The Freedom League were looking for more members but ones that would be willing to stay local and deal with crime in Freedom City. Jason didn't mind that. As Scythe he was making a name for himself in the criminal underworld but he knew he had a lot to learn. His powers were still growing and he needed a training ground to hone them until he found out the extent to how big they would become. That was one of the reasons he had come here. Not only did this place have the top heroes to learn from but it also attracted bad guys he could fight.

Perhaps he would take them up on their offer. First though he needed to get to class. Even superheroes needed an education. After his classes were finished he would head down to Freedom Hall and find out what the deal was.
