If Government wants to remove the phrase under God from the pledge... which is how I learned it, and probably most of us learned it that way in school... then they bloody well ought to remove the so help me God from the swearing in that any/all witnesses take when in court.

Damn to Hell the atheist that started all the let's remove God from the schools flack all those years ago. Just because SHE chooses not to believe... does that mean the rest of us have to be sheep... to be led to the slaughter? I bleedin' well think not! *steps down from her soapbox*

You'll find a most healthy SECOND of that feeling here, dear. But... by the same token... it is not the Iraqi's or Arab's or Muslim's or Hindi's that are demanding that we honour their religious practices... it's our OWN country/government.... demanding that WE sacrifice OUR religious freedom and practice. Those whom we have elected, instead of PROTECTING that freedom, have let their omnipotent power, granted them by the office they were elected to by their constiuents... that means US, the voters, to go to their heads and to blind their eyes and minds.

It gives me pause to wonder just WHO is "leading" this country? And whose Laws are we to follow and accept as Righteous and Just? I don't see G.W. doing anything to put a halt/stop/veto to what Congress is proposing. Does anyone else see something I don't?

and one more from a special place... :rose:

Never lose faith in GOD, for He never looses it in you,
Even if you don’t believe in Him, He believes in you,
He’s always watching over you and everything you do,
Until you find your faith in Him, your life is not completely true.

GOD never gives up; He might just let us go,
Send us up to Heaven, where our souls must grow,
Nothing competes with Heaven; it’s the perfect place,
GOD will take you into His arms, with a full embrace.

Heaven is filled with complete peace, bliss, and delight,
Everyone is laughing; there is no time to fight.
GOD treats us all well, with loving and care,
Before He tucks us in, we all say a prayer.

We say a prayer to those in need,
To those who suffer and those who bleed,
To those who don’t believe in our great GOD above,
He says a prayer for you to always love.

Love everything, and everything shall love you,
Love is always great; sometimes it can be true,
GODs love is always true; He loves you without a doubt,
He loves you and knows what you’re all about.

GOD knows you so much, He knows you the very best,
We were all put here for Him, we are all very blessed.
If you ever feel alone, know this much is true,
GOD always loves, as you are supposed to do.

MFM

Absolutely beautiful MFM! Thank you for delving and diving into that Special Place and sharing this with us.

Without preamble... I shall proceed:

Chapter 3

With another tug on the reigns of their respective mounts, they took off at a full gallop along the beach, reveling in the feel of the sun on their backs and the wind in their faces.

Penny seemed to know exactly what Phaedra wanted even before the rider had given any indication of what was to come next, at least as far as a request for movement was involved.

Michael, having stopped Ramius, sat watching the pair in front of him, struck with the thought that they seemed as one unit, rider and horse. This small woman, both in her frame and her figure, atop his twelve to fifteen hundred pound animal, handled this sometimes very willful, very stubborn, bullheaded animal as if she'd been riding Penny all her life.

Leaning over the saddle, and stroking the neck of his mount, Michael confided to Ramius, "Quite the picture, aren't they old boy?" Ramius tossed his head in agreement, sending his tack jingling, and pawed the semi solid sand.

"Anxious to be off, are you? Do you think we could catch up to them?" he queried his suddenly restless mount.

Phaedra, as if sensing Michael's thoughts, had drawn Penny to a halt, turned her around and started back, at a trot, along the beach she had just ridden down. As she drew abreast of him, he noticed how alight and alive her face was, compared with the deathly pallor of last night during the storm.

He also noticed how the breezes played with her hair, which she had left loose. It was long in back, hanging just past the end of her shoulder blades and had the most unique combination of red/gold highlighting. He also noticed that her hair was such a dark, deep brunette color that it appeared almost black on first glance.

It wasn't until she was out in the sun, that he had noticed that it was Brunette and that the highlights were natural ones.

Probably inherited, he thought. He hadn't realized that he had been staring, until she looked at him quizzically.

"Michael?" she asked quietly, "is everything all right?" The soft English accent in and of her voice filtered into his brain again, and he shook his head to clear his thoughts before he spoke.

"Yes, yes. I'm fine. Just resting for a few minutes." Watching you, he mentally added.

He looked at her as he answered her and caught the simple, small gesture of her hand as it brushed her cheek, near the corner of her mouth, removing a few strands of hair that were trapped there, held hostage by an errant breeze. He found himself wondering what it would be like to let his tongue explore that same corner where her hair had been caught.

What would it be like to trace, starting from the corner of, lightly inward toward the middle of, that full lower lip? Would she draw a quick breath if I were to take that lip between my teeth and nibble on it? He completed his thought.

He quickly sucked in his breath and had to struggle to control his hands as they lightly trembled on the reigns. How could just a gesture wreak such havoc on his senses? What was wrong with him? She would think him daft, dumb, or both, in a moment.

“Are you ready to continue now?” she asked him. He could not reply. His mouth was dry. He licked his suddenly dry lips and tried to speak.

“Michael? Are you ill? Do we need to return to the house?” Concern had etched furrows in her forehead, and was now written into every word she spoke.

“No, Phaedra.” He cleared his voice, which had croaked when he spoke, making him sound like a bullfrog.

“No, I'm fine,” he tried again, pleased with the effort this time.

He smiled again and she felt as if the sun had just come out. She was finding it very pleasant, no, it was very enjoyable, to watch this man smile. She felt the corners of her own mouth returning the smile.

“Good. Then may we continue?”

She was looking at him with those Heather colored eyes again, and it was doing strange things to his heart.

“Yes, let’s.”

He nudged Ramius a bit closer to Penny and suddenly felt the need, no, the urge, for a good gallop.

“Race you to the ledge of the beach!” he said to her.

“All right, you’re on!” she agreed.

As she gathered the reigns up into her small hands, Michael watched this gesture with what started out as pleasure then, seeing what looked like small, white scars on her wrists, the look darkened into a scowl.

Phaedra looked up in time to see the scowl on his face. She allowed her eyes to follow his gaze with a quick look of her own, and then quickly lowered the sleeve of the plaid shirt.

Damn! Now I’ll have to explain these, she thought.

Not wanting, or wishing, to explain the scars right now, she gathered the reigns together, wheeled Penny around, and thumped the mare in the sides.

Clicking her tongue against her teeth, she then whipped the long, loose portions of the reigns from side to side, across the mare’s withers, and shot down the beach, suddenly feeling the need to put distance between her and Michael.

The horse instinctively seemed to know what her rider wanted; it was speed and lots of it! Phaedra felt the mare gather herself for the race and she leaned her slim frame over the saddle and against the neck of the mare.

“GO girl. GO! Break gait!”

The mare took off like a shot from a pistol, leaving man and horse to either catch up with them or stay where they were.

Penny flew down the beach, with her mane, and the hair of her rider, mingling together, glinting in the sun. They raced full bore down the hardened sandy beach, along the tide’s edge, where it gently lapped at the sand.

Phaedra felt and heard, the echoing pounding of the pair coming up on the right, before she saw them. She chanced a quick glance behind her, only to see Michael and Ramius quickly gaining on her.

“HEEYA!” she yelled to Penny, thumping the sides of the mare once again.

The mare, having sensed the urgency in that one word, gathered herself up even more and flew down the beach at a faster pace.

It seemed as if Michael and Ramius were suddenly keeping pace with her and Penny. So, throwing caution to the wind, Phaedra leaned as far forward as possible, so as to be almost out of the saddle and standing, jockey-style, in the stirrups.

Up ahead there was, or what seemed to be, a drop in the beach. As she and Penny came up on it, she realized that the land dropped off sharply and slightly to the right, with a small wooden fence separating the beach from the dunes. She realized that Penny would need to be slowed down, so she veered the mare toward the fence, slowing her pace gradually.

She slowed Penny to a walk, so the mare could see the fence and know it for what it was. It was a jump. She nudged the mare up to it and let Penny walk near it, seeing just how high it was.

“You can do this girl, you know you can,” she said quietly.

The mare nodded in agreement and once again her tack jingled.

Satisfied, she turned the mare around and noticed, for the first time, just how steep the ledge really was that she had just come down. She looked up at the pair waiting on the ledge above, right near the crest of the flat outcropping.

She patted the neck of the mare as they walked back to join the waiting pair. The mare tossed her head, sending her tack jingling. She was ready for whatever her rider knew she could do.

As Phaedra approached them, she could see that Michael’s jaw was set firm, yet his eyes didn’t look as firm as his jaw did. His eyes looked at her quizzically, yet he said nothing.

She waited for him to speak, and in so doing, was unprepared for what his next actions would be.

Michael quickly reached for the reigns, startling Penny with the quick movement of his arm and she started to sidle or sidestep away from him, which in turn alerted Phaedra, and the rider held the reigns with a steady hand and placed a calming hand on the mare’s neck.

“Whoa, girl. Steady there,” she said in a soothing voice.

Thank you BiggBear. It's the third chapter of my 22 Chapter book. I debated about posting it here... and MFM asked... so I've put up the first three chapters. The book took me six months to write. *shy smile* I'm glad you like it.
