If you’re not a Democrat when you’re young, you don’t have a heart, and if you aren’t a Republican when you’re old, you don’t have a brain. ... We know why the Democrats don't want to raise the age limit to a more responsible, experienced, and educated age.

The parties controlling the government open the vote to people for one reason: They want those votes (it's never really been about 100% fairness), they don't care what is going through the person's head as long as they go along with them and that is supposed to offset their lack of understanding.

In truth, I don't think a vote should be a birthright. I think people who want to vote should prove that they have an understanding of American Politics or Politics in general but this is not an idea for this board.

Why not make they pay for their own things, and let they smoke, and let they drink, and let they do other things that adults do? Why not make they get jobs as soon as they enter high school? Why not let they fly planes and let they go to war and let they run for congress and president and negotiate foreign policy and ... there are so many things that they should be doing!

They should be made to grow up first, but they already get a break at eighteen and most of they aren't ready for the kind of responsibility that an eighteen-year-old has to handle, without Mommy and Daddy there to hold their hands.

I remember when the minimum age to vote in a federal election was 21. There was a movement, eventually successful, to lower that to 18. I thought at that time that 18 was too young, because most people of that age were in high school and had never been self-supporting and, in general, didn't know enough of life.

BTW, Richard Nixon won the first election in which 18 year olds were allowed to vote. Just saying.

I think 18 is fine. I'd rather see voting more accessible to people who are already eligible to vote.
