Weight Watchers followers and white wine lovers alike are in for special treat.

The weight loss company announced Monday that it is releasing a line of lower calorie wines in a partnership with winemaker Truett-Hurst (which supplies wine for Trader Joes, Kroger and Target). The first wine in the line is a 2016 Cense Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.

The sauvignon blanc promises only 85 calories and a Weight Watchers value of three points per 5 fl. oz. The company says most white wine has at least four points and 120 calories.

I'm not a wine drinker anymore, and only ever was marginally. But there are a lot of wine drinkers on Lit.

Would you try a low cal wine?

I'd worry this specially modified wine might be high in sulfites. And sulfites and I don't get along very well.

nope. i used to love wine, but i got sick and fucking tired of the hangovers from it even when i just got kinda drunk from it. i don't think it agrees with me very much.

also, i don't drink anymore anyway, so there's that as well.

One of the local South African wineries does a very pleasant very low sugar sparkling wine. Unfortunately it is not in my price range for home drinking.

This. The next day is horrible. Something about wine.

I do love red but yes I would try it. I am guessing it isn't very good though.

A friend of mine suggested a grilled steak recipe using reduced calorie wine.
I poured what amounted to little more than a teaspoonful of the wine on a T-bone I'd just turned. There was, predictably, a bit of sizzle and smoke. At that point the wine formed into the shape of a blood-red cigar with black legs.
I was trying to comprehend what I was seeing when this thing stood and then crouched before launching itself at me, baring huge fangs that seemed to grow larger as it neared my neck.
I'll never know how I was lucky enough to do it, but somehow I managed to hit this thing with the barbecue tongs when it was just inches from my neck. It landed with a splat on the patio and I managed to stomp on it before it could get away.
So no, I'm not using low-cal wine again.

It's difficult to imagine Weight Watchers being responsible for a good wine ... and in my experience, taking the 'calories' out of something usually results in reducing the taste considerably.

Just drink the wine and don't eat dinner. 'Problem' solved.

Yeah, doubtful. I'm not a fan of anything "lo-cal" or "fat free" that isn't naturally that way.

This is generally the case with IPA's. The better they taste, the longer one should stay on the elliptical the following day because those things can pack on the pounds in a hurry

No, I like my wine just the way it is. The natural sugar in the grape is there for a reason. I’ll cut calories elsewhere.

N.B. I just noticed the supplier of TwoBuckChuck is involved. Double no thanks.

Yeah, I'd try it.
I really don't like wine, except for cooking with.

Maybe the low calorie stuff would taste better to me?

No. Because it probably will taste like the wine version of Diet Coke. Yuck. :(

You want lo-cal wine? Water it down as the ancient Greeks did. Of course if you drink twice as much to get the buzz, well so be it. Stop eating deep-fried mozzarella balls. And Twinkies.
