Lovely Behavior

I'm never sure, in these cases, whether things like this never happened when I was younger. I certainly remember some horrific stories that I heard from friends when I was a kid, though nothing on the scale of this story. Still, things that we would consider unconscionable today were routinely swept under the publicity rug. I don't know if such stories are getting more common, or if we're just hearing about more of them. Or, if they are getting less common, but more outrageous.

Cant,

Your sister has my ultimate respect for what she does. I know I wouldn't be able to do it.

I think she's the bee's knees, too. I've seldom seen anyone put a lawyer's papers to better, more productive use. She does a lot for kids.

Short answer; Yes, yes, and no.

These types of things have been going on for long periods of time, they started right about when man thought up living together. We hear about them more now because of two changes, the media and our access to the information. What do I mean by this?

Unlike even twenty years ago we now have access to hundreds of channels on our TV's. All of them vying for our watching them. They look for information which is so shocking we just have to watch it. They also know that if they don't show us this information then we will find it someplace else, the internet for example.

Another good change which has come of this is our acceptance of actions like this. We no longer have the attitudes of it didn't happen to me so I can ignore it, or the attitude of it's their lives. More people are becoming actuve in helping out or stopping things like this. We no longer accept it as individuals, now we just have to change it so society doesn't accept it. This can be a two edged sword though, and does have to be monitored.

A good example of this newfound intolerance is spousal abuse. Not too long ago it was not just tolerated but in some ways expected. A husband was allowed, no was expected to discipline and keep his wife under control. This has changed in most "civilised" countries. Now we don't condone it, and it is illegal. People have been known on rare occasions to step in and it. (Often to their physical and emotional detriment as I can attest, but I will do it again.) Unfortunately there have been cases where the husband has been turned in by the wife or girlfriend for abuse when no abuse occured. Thankfully each time I have heard about this the case was quickly cleared up. Like I said it's a two edged sword.
