I swear I've read a Lovecraftian sort of Halloween thing in one of the contests. Maybe more than one. Several years back now, though, and I'd have to dig for the link...

H.P. Lovecraft

Cthulhu. Great big ancient gods around before the beginning of time, stuck in some interdimensional sleep waiting to awaken to devour the world and return it to its dark, pristine state.

Lots of tentacles.

witch fire? There was a horror/fantasy author by the name of H. P. Lovecraft.

He created a genre of fiction known as The Cthulhu Mythos. A major departure at the time from the other genres of fantasy and horror.

Just about every author in existence has penned a story in the Mythos. Even Stephen King did one.

Gotta love the tentacles! And the inherently futile nature of life in a cold, vast & uncaring universe!

I've only seen one light hearted Cthulhu Mythos story. Roger Zelazny's A Night In The Lonesome October. It's very good. How can you not love a book told from the POV of Jack The Ripper's watchdog as they try to save the world?

Seriously, for a story that's widely been quoted as "unfilmable" I thought it was pretty spot on...roll on The Whisperer In Darkness!!

But...Cthulhu Sex Magazine? No wonder it closed in 2007!! I mean, it's bad enough trying to pronounce his name, let alone get involved in pillow talk with the eldritch horror...
