It's a UK sitcom about parallel lives (male/female) screwing up on the love front. Hilarious in the English way of understatement.

Alice (Tamsin Greig) and Gil (Michael Landes)
Alice and Gil are a perfectly matched couple. Just one thing is holding back their relationship - they've never met.
Love Soup looks at what happens when your first love is a distant memory but you haven't yet found "the one".
It deals with the parallel lives of a perfectly matched couple who are yet to meet each other.
Milly (Montserrat Lombard), Cleo (Sheridan Smith)
"Week by week we explore their separate lives," explains writer David Renwick, "Lives that unhappily do not intersect, but which parallel each other in many subtle ways. We observe their hopes and fears as they try to remain sane in a world from which they each feel increasingly excluded.
"Tellingly, and poignantly, each week we see their continuing doomed attempts to find the definitive partner who will bring them the happiness they deserve.
"Surely, we feel, fate must put them together. But since when has fate ever been kind?"
So what makes Alice and Gil so right for each other?
Natalie (Jaime Murray) and Gil (Michael Landes)
"They are both slightly out of step with modern life and have similar outlooks," reveals producer Verity Lambert, who worked with David on Jonathan Creek, and back in 1963 was the first producer of Doctor Who.
"They're both thoughtful and concerned about the same issues. They tend to get involved in situations despite themselves as they can't really say no to people. They also share a dry sense of humour!"
Surely fate must put them together. But since when has fate ever been kind?
Michael Landes (Gil) adds "You see Tamsin Greig's character and mine living these parallel lives. You see my point of view of meeting the wrong girl. And then you see Alice going through her version of that, so you get a female perspective and a male - but essentially they are the same."
Tamsin Greig, who plays Alice, agrees that there's a perfect match for everyone: "But you have to have your eyes open and your heart ready to recognise it when it comes. You can't be obsessive about looking for it. It's a bit like catching a bus - you can't make one come along but you can be ready to jump on it when it does. Unfortunately, Alice doesn't have her eyes open - in fact she's wearing blinkers, ear muffs, and a very large overcoat!"
