It had been a long fought rivalry that was about to come to a close. The Resource War between the dark elf kingdom of N'gtherts and the fairy kingdom of Niveria had been going on for nearly one hundred years. The two kingdoms had been on equal footing for the last ninety years before the tide began to turn towards the dark elves. They had spent the last ten years merely playing with the fairy kingdom, making them believe they had a chance. However, they had decided to bring their final push on the shattered remains of the fairy kingdom, taking everything completely.

The massive dark elf army surrounded the final city of Silvermoon, the fairy's capital. The sounds of activity from within the massive forest that had once been the edge of safety could be heard by those huddled with the city's walls for safety. It wasn't long before a dark elf approached the city gates by himself. He was silent for a few moments before pointing towards the guards above the gate.

"Tell your King that he has until sunrise to surrender or be crushed under the heel of N'gtherts."

He remained there for a few more moments unchallenged before riding back into the forest.

The king sat in his chair. He looked tired and drained. They had been overpowered. There were so few left in his army and the youth of his people were too inexperienced to fight the well trained forces of the dark elves. It had been a long battle but the gods were not in the fae's favour.

His advisors, his wife and daughter stood by, waiting. His two eldest sons were dead. His younger lay in his room, wounded.

"We have no choice. We cannot fight them anymore."

"But sire-"

The king held up a hand. "Send word that we surrender."

The message of the king's surrender reached the drow commander shortly before sunrise. Normally, such an act would be honored and allow the vanquished to be treated with dignity. However, the drow commander was not one to show his enemies kindness. Instead, he ripped up the scroll upon which the message had been written and killed the messenger.

"I want all troops to continue the attack. Kill all the men, capturing all the women and children. Go!"

At his command, the attack was renewed, the sounds of the city filling with the cries of the fallen and screams of the captured. It wasn't long before the throne room was breached by the drow commander and six armed soldiers.

"Your time has come and your head is mine. "

The drow commander grinned evilly as he charged towards the king with a drawn sword while his men went after the wife and daughter with chains and collars.

They were not prepared for the attack. They had thought, at the king’s surrender all would stop. The chaos and carnage that ensued was terrible. Blood ran, screams were heard.

The queen and princess were escorted out of the main hall and into the back halls, intent on getting them out of the palace through the secret tunnels.

The king readied himself. He inwardly cursed himself for thinking the drow would hold true to a surrender.

The drow charged him. The king braced but he knew his time was ending. He could not hold up to this elf. There was no chance. All he wanted was to give more time for his family to get away.

In the halls, the guards were being slaughtered. It was a drow general who realized the queen and princess had fled and grabbed hold of a guard. “Where are they?”

“I will never-” The hand tightened on his throat.

“If not you then someone else.” The guard died and was dropped to the floor.

It only took two more to get the information and the drow were chasing down the pair and their measly guards in short order. The queen and princess, bound in collars and chains were forced back to the hall where the king was losing his head.

The last thing he saw was the two women in his life bound and forced to their knees, kneeling before the drow ruler who had conquered them.

The king's head hit the floor with a wet plop, smearing a little in the pooling blood. The drow commander grinned for a moment as the two ladies watched their beloved king get beheaded right in front of them. He reached down and pulled the crown from the head, stuffing it into a bag. Next he picked up the former king's head, tying it to his belt for all to see like a trophy.

"Gather all the treasure the army can carry for now. We will come back for the rest later. Keep the females together, but make sure these two are kept by themselves for the journey. I'm sure special plans will be made for them."

He grinned for a moment as he leered at the former queen and princess, thoughts of ravaging both of them later. A moment later, the two of them were escorted away, roughly to be joined with the other captured females. It wasn't long before the army was on the move, heading away from the now dead kingdom.

The queen screamed as her husband’s head hit the floor. The princess thought she might pass out at the sight. The blood. It was a large pool and the smell hit their noses. The queen screamed over and over again before it turned into sobs.

There was no time to fight and really, there was no point. They were overpowered. They were both dragged to their feet. The queen was barely registering what was happening. The princess stared at the man who now held her father’s crown. She felt numb.

They were moving. The guards on her mother were half dragging her as the woman was overcome in grief. The princess walked, staring straight ahead. Their people were dead around them. Others were in chains and some were being whipped back into compliance. They passed a small group who were beating a man. A woman screamed not far off and the princess saw her being dragged off by her hair.

Their kingdom had fallen. Their people were now prisoners of the Drow.

She looked around as they fell into the group of women. They were not allowed, as per the orders to join them completely but they walked on one side and the men that were still living on the other.
