losing my grip.

Carpal tunnel? If it's just getting started, for God's sake start stretches! Get a book now and learn how it's done. You don't want the full blown syndrome, and the stretches sometimes head it off.

I have joint problems in my fingers and toes... I've found something that helps a lot...

Go to your local farm supply store and look for Absorbine Veterinary Liniment Gel

It works great at releaving the stiffness and pain... just keep it away from your eyes and other sensitive body parts... :D

i have tendonitis badly and its so frustating to lose the ability you once had... i've given up things that were hard on my hands, to save them for other things that are more important. best wishes :rose:

also, get diagnosed, ebcasue CT and tendonitis are quite different and therapy can help :)

Scared the shit out of me one day when I just lost my grip on a mug of coffee. My thumb wouldn't sustain any pressure.

Carpal tunnel is the outer hand (nerves to ring finger & pinkie) ... so this was something different. I worked in an office at the time & was at the keyboard all day. Doc had me wear wrist braces over night -- every night. Did the trick.

Good luck to you, Jonathan.

Most likely. The problem pretty much resolved when I quit office work, but I still sleep in them from time to time if my wrists are achey.

Incidentally, switching from standard mouse to a track ball made a huge difference. I also now use a padded wrist rest with my keyboard.

Must make masturbating a real pain!

But seriously, I have heard about those wrist bands...but they just work for that moment. Sometimes CT can be serious enough to warrant surgery.

Definately get checked by a dr..

i agree on the track ball. wrist rest only aggravated my condition though, now i don't rest the wrists at all.
i heard a split keyboard works wonders, but haven't gotten one yet.

thanks all.
I've delt with pain for a LONG time...but the hand "falling asleep" as I drew was/is extra disconcerting.

could be pinched nerve ulnar nerve, how is your elbow?

(I know waaaaay too much about all this, from long experience.)

*hugs* Rhino, find out what it is and when you report back i might be able to get some holistic advice form my mum. She has problems with her wrists and hands (Which is worrying as a big bulk of her work is massaging folk) and she uses different suppliments and oils etc to ease it. She might have something to help :rose:

Not unlikely. Happened to me. My left thumb went slowly number and number and finally felt dead. The villain was my work desk. Or rather, how I was positioned with my keyboard. It was to the left, which meant my left arm was continously out of position (angled away from my body, far outside my left shoulder, apparently a very bad idea) and my elbow rested quite hard on the desk. I sat like that for four years, almost daily. Low profile keyboard, good armrests and a new learned way of sitting restored me within six months to full motion capacity. Have had no problems since. Never learned the medical terms for what I had though, but it was a pinched nerve in my elbow, that I do remember.

You'll just have to get someone to masturbate for you. Right?

yes, and can be aggravated by the way you sleep, if you are a side sleeper and cross or tuck your arms in any way especially. I had to retrain to sleep exclusively on my back, or prop my arms on pillows if on my side.

and yes! resting your weight on your arm for any extended period is bad, as well as having a keyboard sitting too high, or the mouse somewhere you have to reach for it.

I have two computers.

On one, the mouse is to the right of the keyboard. On the other, the mouse is to the left. That spreads the load.
