There is an interesting libel case taking place in the UK now.

A New Zealand cricketer was accused on Twitter in India of being corrupt.

It is being tried in the UK because our libel laws are more generous to the person possibly libelled than in New Zealand or India.

The limits of UK free speech are much narrower than in the US. Racially, religious, or gender abusive language are against the law. Since Literotica is available in the UK, could posters be sued in the UK?

At present a UK citizen has just been refused bail as a potential terrorist in Texas to where he was extradited without any test of the evidence in the UK. He is accused of supplying batteries to be used in SAMs in Iran but he claims he was selling batteries for automobiles to a dealer in the Netherlands. The 'dealers' were CIA agents conducting a 'sting' operation.

Whether he is guilty or not, no one yet knows, but it is causing concern in the UK that a UK citizen can be extradited without sight of the evidence.

That's an interesting question. I also wonder if the same applies to Canadian law? I seem to recall they banned certain people from giving speeches because of their way over the top political/religious/biased content.

My ex-brother in law used to live in Harrisville RI, whic is pretty much the wooded boondocks part of the state.

He owned three acres of land and two of it was woods. his next door neighbor used to tell him to stay out of the woods one Saturday night a month because the Clan met up there in an old barn.

WE thought it was a wives tale until we slipped up there one night and sure enough there they are in their little hoods and one of them in the fancy red one.

I have to say I was really surprised to see that they were up my way.

While not being a lawyer (I hope they are still a safe group to hate), our current and past laws in Canada concerning hate speech have usually been applied somewhat flexibly. Someone has to be spewing for some time and beginning to attract a lot of losers, or people making really dumb decisions, before the cops, lawyers and politicians crack down. Public outcry can also cause a crackdown.

I'm thinking of the high school teacher in Alberta a number of years ago and a couple of other genetic dead-ends in the years following.

In terms of public speeches, people sometimes will be 'banned' for a variety of reasons, some of them logical and some of them insane. Sometimes someone is 'banned' from speaking because they can't cross the border due to a criminal record (etc.) and the media says the reason was something else. A 'ban' can also be imposed at any level, but I can't remember the last time someone was banned by the federal government. Well, Conrad Black was told he wasn't welcome to come back at one point, but he wasn't banned.

I think most people in Canada think similar to the Americans in terms of free speech. People will generally mock or criticize someone who is blatantly racist. Look at what has gone on here...

On the bigger issue of whether people are good or bad, most people are good but don't always do good things. We humans are often stupid and do very stupid things that cause harm to others. There are some who just don't give a flying f*** about anyone else as long as they got theirs. And lastly, there are the small group of 'people' who actively go out and cause harm to others.

If you need confirmation that people are basically good, watch a small child show concern over someone who is hurt. Think of a firefighter. Think of a nurse. Think of a soldier from any country who joined up to serve his/her nation. Think of all those nameless and faceless people you meet every day who say please or thank you or hold a door open for you or strike up a banal conversation while you're waiting with nothing to do. The good people vastly outnumber the bad, they're just a lot quieter.

The woman who started the thread on Stormfront said that she was ashamed about it, but before she became 'racially aware' she dated an asian man for eight months.

There were sixty-three pages after that. I glanced through a few of them. The opinions ranged everywhere from 'it's okay as long as you learned your lesson and didn't have children' to 'asians are worse then negroes, because they are insidious and no one realizes how much of a threat they are to the white race' to 'get the fuck off of this site, you are no longer racially pure'

I have lost faith in humanity, again.
