Lords and Ladies OOC Thread

Boys! We all get it. You both are superior males and so on and so forth. We're impressed.

CT, darling can we see a bio?

Tio you're off the hook it seems yours is written.

Fee, a character not unlike Aveline would be cool, je pense. (I think)

And I like it Wyld. I think Minx will too!

Oh you dirty man. it is only because we are tunnelling experts, we didn't fall we're using the holes to collapse the foundation of your empire. Sides we bathe after we finish killing.
A good idea, for thus can you save your kinsmen from that dirty task as they prepare your corpses for burial. Who my soldiers miss slaying will succumb to the cholera and dysentery gained from their own filthy endeavours.

OK, Ausus, je pense que "la Morte du Merde" suffit pour le moment...perhaps it's time for a more diplomatic approach to our fun.

CT, darling can we see a bio?

Technically... Ms. Minx already did.

But I suppose I should prepare another one. If Valstonia as a country stands how it seems to be being envisioned I have a faulty character. I am however waiting for people to either give me the signal to explain my own home country or tell me more about it.

But please leave Valstonia a NON-japan themed country. PLEASE. I can't take any more of that being the 'Exotic' Place.

I imagine that because the Empire and Valstonia are close.. geographically and the intermingling of nobles and what not, that the similarities within are greater than the differences.

Especially if you look at the Delara/Antar arc they spent time together as teens, which means that there is some sort of fostering of youths between the countries.

I could be completely off my rocker but that's what I think.

Ugh! This is going to be more difficult than I originally thought.

From Valstonia, we have:

Delara
Xavier
CT's character
Wyld's character
My character

From the Empire we have:

Lord Simmons
The Twins

The countries are close enough to have need of treaties, travel between each other, etc.

Delara was taken by pirates and sold as a slave to Lord Simmons.

Xavier was originally from Valstonia and is now a member of Lord Simmons' guard.

Wyld's character was also originally from Valstonia it appears, and serves under Xavier.

And while Bsquad sees the Empire being more gothic/medieval, he sees the neighboring country of Vastonia as being oriental.

The Raiding Party currently consists of two people, myself and CT. Of course we can NPC other members of the party as needed.

There seems to be some dissent about the oriental flavor of Valstonia. I looked up some information, and if we want to keep with an Asian theme for the area, here are some a few suggestions that may appease both sides.

1. Cimmerians
The Cimmerians (Kimmerians) were Bronze Age communities of horsemen north of the Black Sea from the second millennium B.C. The Scythians drove them out in the 8th century. Cimmerians fought their way into Anatolia and the Near East. They controlled the central Zagros in the early to mid 7th century. In 695, they sacked Gordion, in Phrygia. With the Scythians, the Cimmerians attacked Assyria, repeatedly.

2. Kushans
"Mediaeval Commerce (Asia)" From The Historical Atlas by William R. Shepherd, 1926.
Kushan describes one branch of the Yuezhi, an Indo - European group driven from northwestern China in 176–160 B.C. The Yuezhi reached Bactria (northwest Afghanistan and Tajikistan) around 135 B.C., moved south into Gandhara, and established a capital near Kabul. The Kushan kingdom was formed by Kujula Kadphises in c. 50 BC. He extended his territory to the mouth of the Indus so he could use the sea route for trade and thereby bypass the Parthians. The Kushans spread Buddhism to Parthia, Central Asia, and China. The Kushan Empire reached its peak under its 5th ruler, Buddhist King Kanishka, c. 150 A.D.

3. Scythians
Public Domain. Courtesy of Bibi Saint-Pol at Wikipedia.
The Scythians (Sakans to the Persians) lived in the Steppes, from the 7th to the 3rd century B.C., displacing the Cimmerians in the area of the Ukraine. Scythians and Medes may have attacked Urartu in the 7th century. Herodotus says the language and culture of the Scythians was like that of nomadic Iranian tribes. He also says Amazons mated with Scythians to produce the Sarmatians. At the end of the fourth century, the Scythians crossed the Tanais or Don River, settling down between it and the Volga. Herodotus called the Goths Scythians.

These are just some ideas to kick around that might suit everyone. It's entirely possible that since this Raiding party is supposed to be so good or whatever, that Xavier's own mother was taken in a raid from an even more oriental background than Valstonia claims. It could be that the Raiding party isn't even part of the main stream Valstonian culture and are Nomads or outcasts from their country that have settled there, either with or without the blessings of the rulers of Valstonia. Perhaps these strangers were hired by Valstonia to take care of this raid so that Valstonia would look innocent since they are also trying to work out treaties with the Empire...(I kinda like this last idea!)

*shrugs*

I just want a better idea of the type of people those in the Raiding Party are supposed to be before I start working on a character background.

Facts about Valstonia

Alright. There has been much discussion between Fira and I about Our nation Valstonia.

We've come up with this.

We are a VERY large country, ruled by nobles who are outside of the caste system. The rest of us must work in the caste system which buys and sells us routinely, but grants the protections of our lands and people. We are a very fractious nation. The nobles are usually considered fairly sacrosanct and untouchable but mistakes happen. Most nobles are easily identified and immune to the caste system or combat but still engage regularly.

The system itself is based on successful raiding, both on out few country and in country. There is a lot of infighting. Since the only way to make it to the top or out of the Caste system (and thusly rule or lead) is to either be a noble (which requires birth, and lineage and things.) is to become a war chief or hero, we have a lot of people who try very hard to get very good at things.

This is why Delara despite being a noble is still so good at archery, and Xavier is such a blade-master. Like samurai we practice constantly to perfection the chosen gifts we have. So our country produces a lot of people who are best at a lot of things. OR if not THE best we produce some of the best.

It is this very competitive drive that both keeps us from being a dominant empire (too busy in-fighting) and also keeps us from being effective soldiers. As squads we function well men feel beholden to a single leader with his own tactics and his own abilities that suit their own skills. So six warriors is a nightmare to face. But sixty or six hundred are a jumbled group of people who will refuse to listen or fight for a nations well being that isn't their own. They make poor soldiers.

If this is fine I'll have a bio to come up shortly thereafter. I think it settles everyone's characters fine without trapping me or Fira down to a pre-existing mold. (Nothing personal I just HATE the samurai and against an army like this having that mentality means this is nothing but suicide.) So I hope this satisfies everyone and allows enough freedom to be suitable pains in the ass while letting us have our moments.

Well Tio, since Minx and Ausus both want you to play Lord Simons, I will differ to their decision on the matter. Write him well, I put a lot into Simons as the defining person in the story, so I hope you'll do him justice. :)

Okay well this all sounds fine to me! Glad we've worked a lot of this out and I get the very sudden feeling all you boys are gonna get mighty competitive...I wonder why that is? :D

Wyld your bio is perfect hun ;)

And CT, I'm fine with what you and Fira have come up with, I doubt the others will argue much as it fits just fine.

Ausus hunny, you can post both your characters now if you wish and just write Marotte out of the scene with Lord Simons.

Tio you can follow Ausus' post for Arabelle!

Wyld you can post as you please now but it might be a good idea for your character to start by seeking Xavier out as he's alone right now since the loss of Aveline.

Fira and CT we await your bio's and then you two can post at your leisure as you seem to be stuck together at this point ;)

This work for everyone?

Alright Ladies and Gents... I am going to post. Start the drumroll please...

I will do my upmost to get Marotte out of the way, and still do her justice. Then, I will focus on making sure Delara est très heureuse.

If it needs to be edited I will do so. Á Bientôt et bonne chance!

Name: Hairuwulf (Hairu) of Clan Amret
Age: 42
Country Affiliation: Valstonia
Clan: Amret

Height: 174 cm. (5'7" or so.)
Weight: 74 Kilos (165 lbs.)
Hair: Dark brown with the occasional peeking grey strands. Kept in a fastidious braid.
Eyes: Green and Blue. Some say they shift colors.

Background: Hairuwulf means sword wolf. And it is not the given name of Hairu. Hairu originally was brought in as taken weregild. (slave child for a victory.) Clan Amret saw potential in the swift fingered observant youth and he began the same training and schooling as all other boys. Over time with devoted service he became an accepted member of the clan and with repeated victories and successful raids, Hairu rose through the caste's until he was a war party leader.

As a hired sword he took a name meaning sword, and while he could not deign to be called a dog of war, he was a taken in Wolf. And so took the name Hairuwulf.

Skills: Hairu is possibly the best tracker of an entire people of hunters. His ability to conceal traces and signs is legendary, and his ability to read trails even days old is uncanny. He is a former champion bowman, even from horseback, as are all his raiders. They are known as fierce bowmen, famous for concentrated ambushes and devious tactics. Hairu himself is also the teacher of most Unarmed Combat throughout many neighboring clans including his own. He is aging now, but most still give him a wide berth when he is introduced. His skills of stealth and night raiding are equally talked about.

Well that should be about it.

Most other Valstonians should know of his clan, if not him. While he himself is not particularly famous or feared, his works and the work of his clan is. they are usually the assassins and pirates of the country and frequently called upon for less than diplomatic missions.

I can murder Marotte if we need her laid low. I am fine with taking the blame for that.

So what is the final Female to Male ratio?

CT I love it!

Okay so we've got...
Bsquad - Xavier
Ausus - Antar/Arabelle
Minx - Delara
CT - Hairu
Wyld - Soryian
Tio - Lord Simons
Fira - Unknown yet

So male/female ratio for characters is 5 to 3

But like I said I can play Juniper to make it 5 to 4 if need be, it's because Ausus is playing the twins that we have slight imbalance.

What does everyone else think?

Like I put in my original post... Antar and Arabelle will usually share a lover... hope you all can handle that.

I just made my first post....please look it over, and see if i need to revise anything. Hopefully it works...

~Wyld

I'm fine with it Wyld, nice post as far as I'm concerned but Bs is the one responding so it might be a question for him...

And Ausus my lovely  very nice! Shall have a post for you later my sweet!

I thought he was the one you wished to drop; if not, please let me know.

Name: Armina of Clan Amret
Age: 26
Country Affiliation: Valstonia
Clan: Amret

Height: 5’2”
Weight: 110 lbs
Hair: Dark chestnut brown, long exposure to the sun giving it a kiss of fiery highlights, just to the middle of her back, and usually held back in a no-fuss ponytail at the base of her neck by a piece of leather thong.
Eyes: A warm Amber, flecked with Green. More Gold when angered, more Green when happy or excited.

Background: The youngest child, and only girl, in a large family, Armina was originally named Aria. Her ten brothers treated her as one of them, roughhousing, wrestling, fighting amongst themselves, and she learned quickly that it was no use to go running to her mother with tales of who had done what to her this time. Her father, when home, was the only one that coddled her, but those times were few and far between. It was actually a wonder that there were so many children in the family with his great absences during raids and the like.

Because of the influence of her brothers, Aria became very much a tomboy, much to her mother’s dismay. When she should have been watching and learning how to cook the massive meals required to feed such a troop, she was, instead, outside chasing animals, following her brothers around, running foot races with the younger boys of the clan, and generally making a pest of herself among the males of the community.

By the age of 7, when the boys went off to learn specific skills and crafts that a warrior should learn, Aria had become so much like one of them that her mother despaired ever getting her to take the tasks of a household seriously. Frustrated that even her youngest would be of no help around the house, her parents decided to petition the teachers for her formal training in the ways of a warrior. When she had passed several rounds with the smaller, younger boys, it was reluctantly agreed to allow her the training she so desperately desired. It was during her training that the boys mockingly began calling her Armina, or Warrior. As a joke or no, they quickly learned she was a force to be reckoned with, and the name stuck, now said with much awe and respect.

Once the main training was completed, the new young warriors went through a rigorous selection process, to be taken in hand by a more seasoned warrior and led out on actual raids to ply their various specialties…and to learn new ones from the veterans. Hairu’s choice of Armina wasn’t unexpected. Her smaller than average stature and her natural propensity for close combat using the curved knife called a kukri, made her the ideal candidate for unarmed combat training.

Skills: Swift, light footed, extremely skilled in horsemanship and use of the bow from horseback. Her ability with the two Kukri she carries is well known in the clan, and those that cross her stay well away. She excels at stealth, due to her diminutive size, and can slip up on even the most wary of prey. She has no compunctions against using her body as a tactic. If the enemy is stupid enough to fall for the feminine sway of hips, or ample curve of breast, then in her estimation, they deserve to die.

My post is up my freaky darlings!

I really need to get back into the swing of writing her so I apologize if it's a bit rocky!

And Fira, I love it! So much detail, I have a feeling you'll love writing her oddly enough! ;) Awesomeness!

Tio - I'm fairly certain that Bsquad is fine with it but he'll be online again tomorrow so he can answer then :)

Good, I'll be more comfortable posting when I know I'm not stepping on toes (or other body parts); his post seemed to bespeak a certain sense of loss in my taking over the character...

Tio

It's alright Tio.

You are more than welcome to play Lord Simons, if you'd like, we can get into a PM convo about him just so I can flesh out what I viewed him as being a bit more clearly for your writing so that you can get a deeper feel for him. I'd enjoy chatting the character over with you and answering any questions you might have.

And you're fine with how Fira and I have outlined the nation you used to belong to? I also want to know I'm not stepping on any toes.

I think we should all be in touch now and again since our characters will play a pivotal role in the denouement of cette petite histoire...

And Bsquad, I look forward to chatting with you about Lord Simons. I will be posting for him tomorrow; perhaps you'd let me know where you saw the scene with him and Arabelle going... send me a pm, if you would be so kind.

Tio! Bsquad! Post! I am bloody dying here waiting for this story to continue! Giggles Sorry.. patience isn't one of my fortés.

I'll be invigilating an exam shortly, and I've just downloaded the Arabelle/de Guinne/Simons scene to date so I can continue in the proper vein. I'll work on it during the exam...so I should be able to post in about 2 hrs. Can you hold it that long, Ausus?
