Loosing it?

I love writing but right now I feel like I have lost it....I start stories and none of them get finished.

It's been 3 months since I actually finished a story. WIll it ever come back?

It's different for everyone, but in my case, I have to put everything aside and not even look at it for a while when I start hitting blocks.

Others get through them by writing to a certain goal each day, whether it's "crap" or not.

There's no easy answer. You have to find what works for you.

I found I have to work on one story at a time and back-burner the rest. I get stretched out too far creatively and lose track of the plot line. I put all my focus on that one and get my head back into the story. I have to establish the connection to my characters and what they're doing, then let them go in the story and write it.

This is really good advice. I like it. Often I'll wonder where my stories are going. Most of the time I have this very idea in mind. I'll know of a specific scene or moment that I absolutely must have in the story, and I get that going, but neither the story before or after is written, but this one central moment exists, allowing all sorts of possibilities for a beginning and ending afterwards.

Think of what the climax is, then how to build up to it. It's just like sex in a way, we all know what the climax is, but how fun is the journey getting there? What happens afterwards? Is there a fun cuddle cool down, or a quick up and leave? I really do like this advice from Lovecraft.

If you really want to finish that story, push through and do it, even if it's imperfect. If you're not finishing it because it doesn't interest you, try to figure out why. Usually writer's block is just some unresolved or vague story issue that needs to be thought through so you can move forward with the narrative again. Good luck.

As someone pretty new at this, figure my opinion is worth about 10% of the others. However, when I hit snags, I simply bang in a series of plus marks and move on. The marks show me somewhere I need some fixing, and the story farther on leads me. YMMV

Personally, I think that's a fine technique. I outline before I write, so if I hit a snag in some scene, I just write the next one and come back later. Usually, whatever issue I was having resolves itself after I've had some time and distance.

Well, if that would help bring it back...i'd try it. Why did I not think of that sooner?
