Do We Have Another Thief

There was a thread resurrected on the site from 2018 "Types of writing that do well on the site"

The OP's lit submission page was gone but his forum profile let me to Smashwords.

There was a list of stories there (27) that were all posted between April 2018 and May 2019 often just a few days or a week apart. That's one of the hallmarks of those who borrow without permission.

I posted a link and NotWise says he recognizes one of the stories and it wasn't written by this SuperWriter person. I then checked on Amazon and the stories (mostly incest) are there too.

You might want to check it out and see if your stories are there.

Amazon - do a search for a unique title in books.

The Amazon link doesn't work. Random list of books, none of which are by Super Writer.

Same problem with the Amazon link.

In the SmashWords list, I'm pretty sure at least one of those stories is yours.

None of them look familiar to me. I've been searching lines from the smashwords excerpts, and the only thing I've found so far is links to his profile on a competing site that actually does a really good job of trying to ferret out plagiarism.

Which one? I'll look at it specifically.

I keep getting bullshit links from Amazon. I did a search for one of the story titles and got results. Then clicked on his author page and got a list. It appears he's disabled in some way but the stories and prices are still there.

Attached image from Amazon. There's more books after those two.

It really is like playing Whack a Mole. How much time and effort do you put in to chasing ghosts?

Everything I'm seeing so far looks like a case of an author putting out a bunch of already completed work in a steady stream. No Lit hits with my normal exact text searches.

Only one so far to a site that questioned me with the release of each of my first stories posted from my Darkniciad and Les Lumens pen names, because I have to post under a single pen name there, and chose RR. The mods contacted me for confirmation that the stories were mine, and followed through with the links to my website before approving those stories. They pay attention and do plagiarism searches before approving work.

What I've looked at so far also feels fairly consistent in voice.

I could be wrong, but I'm just not seeing it.

Ben has always been attracted to his 42 y.o., mother, Marie and his 40 y.o., aunt, Laura. So when the two are arguing about who was a better girlfriend to a mutual ex in the past, he comes up with the idea for the two sexy women to date him and prove who's right.

I thought you described this story not long ago. Maybe I'm wrong

Nope. Looked at the text, and nothing familiar.

That is also one of the works he has posted on the other site as a multi-chapter story.

I think there may have been some gun-jumping here.

Yes, someone putting out a large number of Ebooks rapidly can be a sign of a thief, but it also can be a sign of someone taking an existing body of work and trying to make a couple of bucks off it. It's hardly uncommon.

Probably should be a little due-diligence in trying to find examples of plagiarism before making a thread like this. It's typically obvious from the start when you start doing exact text searches on Google.

Take a line from early in the story that's fairly unique, contains no character or place names, and place the entire selection in quote marks. That causes Google to search for those exact words in that exact order.

In almost every case where an actual thief has been unmasked, it only took a few searches of that nature to turn up works posted under multiple pen names with radically different author voices.

That simply didn't happen here.

May be the sign of a thief or maybe not.

That's why I indicated one story appeared to be a possibility and people should check. Based on the way the works were presented I suggested in the beginning people go check.

The title of the thread may be a little provocative but that gets people reading and then checking. Maybe. ;)
